Topic: Bridge to Better Days Gear

Hi!
I'm in a band and we're going to play Bridge to Better Days. I already have the song worked out and gearwise I'm with my 1991 Les Paul standard with a Metro JTM45 and a 2X12 cab loaded with 2 EVM-12L's... But I can't really make out what pedals Joe uses on this one, although I've seen him play it live. I guess I'll have to put the JTM45 at 10/10 with a Carl Martin Hot Drive'n Boost on, but do you know what else??? Is there any delay in that one? A TS808 as well (I have a FD2)? A chorus (I don't have that one...)? Reverb that's for sure and I have the Holy Grail... If you guys know what stuff he steps on, let me know please!

And let's drift from there a little as well: With this gear at hand (I'm talking pedals only), what do you think is missing, what do you think is crucial in getting a fatter/better tone, tell me please what you would instantly buy if it's not in my list:
- Hot Drive'N Boost (MK1)        - Fulltone FD2
- Holy Grail Reverb                  - BYOC Tremolo (awesome btw)
- Boss DD-3                           - Dunlop Crybaby Wah (was offered to me, I would have gone with a Vox or a Fulltone...)

That's all the pedals I have, what's my next purchase...? Don't tell me buy a second amp, I can't afford that...
Thanks guys!  cool

Re: Bridge to Better Days Gear

I'd set it up for the 808 for a sweet overdrive sound, roll the tone back on your guitar, and use the bridge p/u.  Its kinda got a bit of that Clapton vibe as far as solo tone goes.  Rock it out and play it from down deep and your good too go!

Ben

If you want fatter, better tone just leave your tone knobs rolled back half way.  Thats where I set them and work off of that little more/little less.

Re: Bridge to Better Days Gear

For the Bridge to Better days tone he's using his Marshall/Marshall combination which is his "rude" rock tone, not the polished EJ-like violin delay drenched lead sound.  With the JTM 45 it just needs more gain.  I like a Fulltone OCD for that Marshall like rock sound, especially on the HP mode.  Tubescreamer type pedals will fatten the tone up some because of the added midrange and to my ears the OCD is midrange neutral...pretty transparent.  When Joe does gigs w/o his main rig he usually uses a Marshall and TS808 for most of his tones.  Only tip I can offer is to keep the reverb/delay/chorus thing to a minimum for that particular track.  It sounds very immediate and dry to my ears.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Right on stratpaul!
I used my JTM45 at 5/10 plus the FD2 at 6/10 and it just did wonders. We recorded the song in a studio and it's incredible. It was the first time I used my amp without my THD Hotplate. God, it sounded like a 100W plexi... incredible. Thanks guys, our version is quite ok tonewise...! wink
