Topic: New gibson les paul, all maple??

Anyone seen the new Gibson Les Paul Raw Power? Pretty much a studio but with an all maple body, neck, fretboard! Seems to me kind of like blasphemy...The point of a Les Paul's mahogany body is to provide that low-midrange we all know and love. However, it would provide a great solution for someone who wants that les paul feels with the ability to cut through even more(especially with the bright 57's). PLUS they have a les paul with a "satin gold" finish and black hardware...look kind of familiar...? wink

Man that thing must sound bright. It doesn't look as bad as I imagined... at least they didn't put in big black block inlays.

Well done Gibson....I have to hand it to you....

They do a fine job of destroying their own company...far more than letting other companies continue to do better - they just decide to come up with worse ideas than someone who doesn't play guitar would.

Re: New gibson les paul, all maple??

Not at all convinced about the all maple look. Looks a bit tacky.

Gibson produced a Les Paul Standard Raw Power around 2000 that is much more pleasing to the eye. There's a nice example of one in Tony Bacon's book '50 years of the Gibson Les Paul'. Always fancied one but never managed to track one down.
