Topic: 2009 limited edition Gibson Nighthawk

New “Under the Radar” Gibson USA release: 2009 limited edition Nighthawk.

The 2009 version differs on several points to the vintage Nighthawks that were manufactured from 1993-1999. The new version sports a P90 at the neck and a 498T at the bridge; 2 volume and 1 tone control; weight relieved body; 50’s style neck and a 24.75” scale.

The originals have 1 volume and 1 tome pot; solid mahogany body and a 25.5” scale.
And I swear my 1999 has a 60’s taper neck. The originals came in 3 trim levels (custom, standard and special) and two pickup configurations (dual humbuckers and a 3 pickup version with mini-humbucker at the neck, single coil in the middle and a slanted humbucker at the bridge.) The 3 pickup version also has a push/pull volume control that engages coil splitters and a stratocaster-style  5 position pickup selectorto give ten tonal combinations.

Features that the new edition shares with the vintage guitars is mahogany body and neck with a maple cap, body binding and Klusen-style tuners with “pearloid” knobs. The body shape appears identical.
