Topic: Which Microphone to use for live amp micing??

Hi.

I've seen that Joe says he uses a Beyer M-88 :

"In relation to Amp Mic’ing Through the PA:
421's and EV's and Beyer M -88's are in our bag of tricks.  Mic the outside of the cone."

Does anyone know if that is what he is still using?? I've looked on Beyer's website and they only seem to have a M-88 TG

Is this the same mic? It says it's for vocals and bass drum.  I've been borrowing a Shure SM57 for a little while and that seems to do fine but need to buy my own so looking around at other options.  Whats the pros and cons of the Beyer??  Anyone got any views on mics to use???

Thanks

Not sure about his mics. I use Senhi. 609s located between the cone and edge of the speaker flat agaist the grill. I love them. Very true to the amps tone and really clean. Does not pick up stage noise, drums,or anything for that matter. Just pure guitar wink

Joe uses 4 Sennheiser 421's for his rig. The Beyer 88 is what we were using on his vocal mic. Every once in a while some other company makes a better mic, so things change from time to time.
