Topic: The pillaging continues

If anything good has come from the wrecked world wide economy it's that it's a buyer's market for guitars.

I found myself with a free afternoon yesterday (and had left my el cheapo road axe at home) so I dialed in the nearest Guitar Center on my GPS.  I found one SWEET acoustic guitar that I would highly recommend.

It's a discontinued "limited edition" Martin. It's called the "Custom D mahogany". Basically it's a D-15 (which is all mahogany construction) but this one has a spruce top. It's a no-frills instrument. A single plain ring on the rosette. But it's a for real American made Martin. $899.00 and it comes with a nice hard case as well.  GC and MF both list it. GC has it on their website for $999 but the in-store price was $899 (go figure). Maybe they hadn't had time to match MF's online price?

The guitar has a wonderful clear tone and it's light as a feather. It also has a very slim neck so those of you with small hands (or in my case, a touch of arthritis) it makes for easy playability.

It's on close out. It's the least expensive solid wood Martin out there and they will be gone before you know it.
Martin does make less expensive guitars but they have laminated necks and bodies and/or are made outside the USA.

Here's the link to MF: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … sku=514700

I forgot to mention that on Martin's website they list "famous" Martin owners. There is one "Joe Bonamassa" listed. smile

I hear ya - I have enough stuff for Joe to sign right now but I think they would stop me at the gate if I was pushing a wheelbarrow. big_smile

We'll hook up a small trailer to the back of my wheelchair. If anyone asks we'll tell them it's all necessary medical supplies! lol

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: The pillaging continues

Dang, it happened again. Spider turned me on to a guitar shop in Ithaca and I stopped in there today after work. They had some really nice vintage axes there. Anyhow I walked away with a used Gibson Nighthawk in pretty decent shape for a 10 year old guitar. It's the basic model (Nighthawk Special) in "Heritage Cherry" finish. Aside from a little buckle burn on the back (not through the finsh tho) and the gold plating worn from the bridge pup surround it looks almost new. Details: Mahogany body with a plain maple cap, body shape similar to a LP only smaller and thinner (hence lighter than a LP); 25.5" scale so more like a Strat than a LP; Gold plated hardware and vintage Klusen style tuners with the pearloid knobs. 3 pickups: slanted bridge humbucker, a single coil in the middle position and a mini-humbucker (think Firebird) at the neck. A 5 way pickup selector (like a Strat) and one each volume and tone pots. The tone pot is push/pull (coil splitter for the buckers) so 10 tonal combinations. It sounded really good thru the amp at the store. Can't wait to get this beast home!

Re: The pillaging continues

Congrats on the new axe! Your lucky you got out of there with your credit intact!

I walk into that store and it's like nirvana! Then reality rears it's ugly head and realize I can only afford a bumper sticker. Glad they're free!! lol

Re: The pillaging continues

No kidding!!! I bet Joe knows about that place. I could have dropped a heck of a lot more dosh in there. But they did throw in a tee shirt and a couple of picks with the deal.

Like Ahnold sez "I'll be baaacckkkkk"!

Yes Rumble Seat Music has sold some of Joe's guitars in the past. I was a day late and a dollar short in grabbing one.

Re: The pillaging continues
