I just got an email about this yesterday...

This poor guy got his guitar broken by United Airlines, but if you ask me it was a worthwhile adventure. I actually flew United yesterday coming home from visiting family in the midwest, with my guitar. I didn't have any problems, I did talk with one of the stewards on my second flight about Mr. Carroll's issue with United though. Apparently after 'United Breaks Guitars' became obscenely popular on Youtube, United contacted Mr. Carroll and is now sponsoring his band, giving them all free airfare when they gig, paid him for the repairs, and also bought the rights to the song to use to train future employees.

Not bad for one broken Taylor...

I remember Steve Howe of Yes saying once, when flying, he always bought a ticket for his beloved Gibson. I thought, Ahh... how sweet. I met Steve Howe once at a signing, but he doesn't shake hands. At first i was a little offended, but after thinking about it... i kinda understood smile

A guitarist's hands are a big part of their instrument, but shaking hands isn't going to do any damage if you put a little bit of effort into it. A dead fish is a lot easier to hurt than a good...firm fish...I guess...that metaphor doesn't exactly follow, but you get what I mean.

At this Yes signing, there must have been over 500 eager fans, and i guess, Steve Howe didn't fancy shaking that many hands. The thing was, Jon, chris and alan all shook my hand, but Steve didn't.

WOW!!!!! I was just reading the musicians account of his guitar getting trashed and watching the evening news at the same time. Bam, a teaser lead for the 6PM news comes on regarding this story on the CBS affiliate KPIX in San Francisco. This guy is definitely getting his revenge on United. Question is, what will the airline do to save face? Stay tuned, this is gettin' good.

Hadn't got that far when the story popped up on TV and I posted spontaneously, multi-tasking got the better of me. Just wait till you're my age Danny, and you will have acquired selective hearing and vision. You'll get it...........further on down th' road.
