Topic: Q for Joe B: Your amps and Dumble

Seeing a couple of your rig demo's, I make the assumption that at least 3 of your amps are "loosely" based on the famed Dumble ODS; the Carol Ann, Two Rock and VanWeelden.

Have you ever given a Dumble ODS a go? If so, how did you like it and how did it compare to the ones you are using tonally? I'm not saying you should get a Dumble as your tone is awesome smile

Yes, I do believe you are right if my memory serves me. That is information you can find by searching the forum too. Joe has chimed in on Dumble sounding amps quite a bit in the past. He's talked about uber-cost of Dumbles and how the amps you mentioned nail the sound without going completely broke.

Re: Q for Joe B: Your amps and Dumble

I believe that Joe has mentioned that he owns at least one Dumble ODS and has used it in the studio before.  The thing is, because of the value, it's not practical to play the amp on the road.  So the Two-Rocks, Carol Anns, Van Weeldens, Fuchs, etc are just amps that have been forged from the Dumble mold so to speak.  The only one of those clones that is suppose to be a complete replica is the Van Weelden.  At least that's the way Joe describes it, as the closest thing to the real deal that he's come across.  I think if the Van Weelden didn't exist a Bludotone Bludodrive would probably be the next best thing as far as historic reproductions of the classic Dumble amps go.  Brandon from Bludo has some amazing stuff to offer from the 70's, 80's, or 90's ODS HRM or Non-HRM to 150W Steel String Singer clones!  I would like to hear Joe try a Bludotone Hi Plains Drifter (the SSS clone) and see how he likes it.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

does anyone have a pic of Joes Dumble?

Re: Q for Joe B: Your amps and Dumble

I don't think Joe ever toured with his Dumble... correct me if I'm wrong. And most photos/questions revolve soley around his live rig. I'd love to see a pic myself!

whats the story behind this? Does Joe still own it? How does it compare to the carol ann and van weelden?

Re: Q for Joe B: Your amps and Dumble

I was there when he borrowed it from a guy at a booth and they rolled it out for his set sitting in with Jim Suhler and Monkey Beat. As far as I know he just borrowed it and has never owned one. I think that is when and where he met the Cat 5 people.

Thanks for that! What did it sound like live?
