Topic: Beth Hart live

Just came home from seeing Beth Hart live. The evening began frightening with a "support" band, introducing themselves as "das ist der Herbert und ich bin die Claudia" or "das ist der Klaus-Uwe und ich bin die Sabine". She sang in a JoanBaez way with such a squeaky clean voice and a frozen smile - it was a pain in the ****.

So it was a huge relief to see and hear Beth Heart. She played an all-acoustic set, only her singing and playing piano (sometimes guitar) and an acoustic guitar player. What a voice, what an expression, what a woman!!! She was singing so good, you could forgive the Americans to have produced all these so called R&B singers. Joe, if you ever need a female singer, it´s her!

Re: Beth Hart live

I was just talking to Cathy about who was on after Michael Burks in Schoeppingen on Sunday and yes, it's Beth Hart and then somebody else. We couldn't understand why Michael wasn't higher up the pecking order.

In view of your recommendation Günther, I'll certainly listen to her with attentive ears and an open mind!

Re: Beth Hart live

Thanks for the information Gunter, Í'll see her tomorrow too in Schoeppingen. George, Marco, Eva, Rudi, Johan and more friends from me will be there.
The weather is wonderful both festivaldays: clear blue sky 23 Celsius!

Tonight Joe, we'll have our Joewine for his Birthday today!

We'll give a review after.

Re: Beth Hart live

Your a lucky man Gunter....I caught her doing a live radio show about 4years ago, I thought she sounded a bit between Janis Joplin and Susan Tedeschi.....I have a cd of hers around here some where, very good stuff

Re: Beth Hart live

Good shout Gunter!  I too hear alot of similarities with Janis, Susan, even Carole King.  I agree with the comment about a duet with Joe - that would be interesting.

Re: Beth Hart live

Very nice Günter! You know, I'm starting to consider Germany as a place for me to move to for retirement. I mean, it seems you have so many wonderful shows to attend. Plus, it also seems that Germany gets to see Mr. JB a bit more than Wisconsin does. Hmmmm, let me see.......

This year:

Germany Joe shows:  12 (I think?) smile

Wisconsin Joe shows:  1 roll

Yep, I'm considering Germany alright!

Well, it´s only one show in Bavaria which seems to be Germany´s Wisconsin.

Re: Beth Hart live

I remember hearing about the Beth Hart Band and her great vocals many many years ago, like in my high school or college years, which would've been the mid to late 80s.  I just looked her up and she was born in 1972, but her first album didn't come out til 1996.  So this must have been during her early years and I'm thinking she must have been touring and playing local bars.  I never saw or heard her myself, but I remember my brother and I believe one of our local radio DJs raving about her.  These are only vague memories, but when I saw the name Beth Hart on this thread, I immediately knew the name.  I just sampled some stuff online... I guess I like her style pretty well, although I'm not a big fan of the shaky voice thing (if you know what I mean?)... but she does cover Soul Shine, so that's a big plus on her side, haha... wink

If your daughter can manage it Günter, Joe will be playing in your living room next year. smile

By the way, you had mentioned something about seeing Oli Brown. Could you say hello to him for me? He seems like a very nice young man.

Yes, she does it very nicely on her new album. I hoped to hear it as encore, but she didn´t.
On stage she said something about having toured some time  with a band in Alabama after leaving LA.

Re: Beth Hart live

Beth Hart is fantastic. Also a very good songwriter from what I've watched on You Tube. I remember Joe saying how impressed he was after seeing her live in London last year.
A Joe and Beth duet would be awesome I bet....If Heartaches Were Nickels would be my suggestion smile

Re: Beth Hart live

Well - where to begin?

I don't know if the acoustic show I saw her do yesterday at Schoeppingen is her standard show or not. She filled me with contradictory reactions. She's fun, she's clever, she's certainly talented, she has one hell of a voice (though I can do without the Mariah Carey throat vibrato warble), but she's also very 'foul-mouthed', sometimes maybe even too much so...which is something that will limit her opportunities. Unless she also does a 'clean' act.

I liked her - a lot - but she didn't knock my socks off, know what I mean?

Re: Beth Hart live

I know what you mean George. My music loving friends here have tried to get me to watch her DVD shot at the Paradisio in Amsterdam. It had me blushing a bit. Joe's dancing girls in ANDY live are tame in comparison to her bump and grind.

Re: Beth Hart live

Thanks to my well-working unconscious I didn´t understand all her lyrics and stayed morally intact. Seriously: I also thought that she was overdoing a bit the use of the f-word, she might get caught in a kind of cliche by this. Otherwise I found it refreshing that it´s not only male singers using explicite lyrics , sounds and body language.

Re: Beth Hart live

Anyone who has met me will know that I"m no prude and that I have no problems with 'potty mouths'. I just thought that she went a little too far at times, especially in conjunction with her hyper behavior on stage. In her own words, "I'm just *&%#ing crazy, but I'm on medication".

Re: Beth Hart live

I didn't know she was a foul-mouthed woman on stage. That puts me off her a bit, don't really think that's necessary. Swearing's not big and it's not clever!

Tripsy hmm

Guess who again played Beth Hart on his Planet Rock show last night. smile
