Re: Which models of Les Pauls does Joe use?

No worries bro, the R0 is not more expensive!

Sounds like the perfect guitar for you.  It has the tone of an R8 or R9 but the playability of the thin taper 60's Gibsons.  BTW if you can't get a deal on an R0 but a R8 is available don't fret.  I was STRICTLY a Strat player my whole life before I bought my R8.  I was so used to that Strat scale and 50's V-shaped neck on my Strat...and it was very hard for me to switch.  The cool thing is, when you start getting fast and clean on your LP I find that it makes your hands stronger so when you pick up that Strat you are even more able to rip on it!  Good luck.

I don't like really FAT necks. My strat has a really thin neck and so does my LP (60's) though the lp is too thin. A standard 50's neck is probably fine, I love the traditional neck but if it's any fatter I'm afraid I won't like it...

My 1973 LP neck is REALLY thin too. But I like it.

In terms of feel when playing, how does the R8 differ from the traditional? (In terms of neck thickness, frets etc)?

Could someone elaborate a bit more on that?
I'm planning to buy a Les Paul this summer but won't be able to spend more than what a Traditional costs. I simply can't afford a 08 or 09. Is the difference in tone that dramatic? I heard good things about the Traditional and I'd rather have 57 pups than Burstbuckers, so I thought the Traditional would be a good compromise.

Not over here in Sweden.

I think the R9 would have the best neck (over on the LP forum they say it usually has a slightly slimmer neck than the R8)...

If we're talking Gibson USA, the 60's neck is too slim, the 50s is good (but slightly bigger is fine)...

I'm looking forward to next Friday when I'll get to try it. (Still haven't made sure the store has one available though) but if I don't like the neck I won't get one... hmm Hope it's not too fat...
