Topic: Why does Joe....

have is pick guard raised on the Gold top?

and

The acoustic appears to have mesh over the 'hole' is this to keep the 'sound' in the body?

I know I am complete mumpty but have to ask big_smile

Re: Why does Joe....

What do you mean a raised pickguard?
All les pauls have a pickguard raised off the body, or is Joes raised more so or something?

Re: Why does Joe....

Whatever is covering the sound hole on the Acoustic, is probably a "Feedback Buster". So yeah, it probably does keep a little of the sound inside! big_smile

A Feedback Buster helps dampen the guitars vibrations, so they don't feedback so much. Really helps when you're playing with a lot of volume.

And a towel stuffed inside kills even more feedback.

I had read last year in the Guitarist mag with him on the cover that he does pack the Yamaha's full of towels so that acoustically they are totally dampened and are really more like a solid body acoustic electric.

Re: Why does Joe....

Feedback busters are great. my two cents big_smile

Plus they keep you from dropping your pick in the hole smile

Re: Why does Joe....

I got this weird chet Atkins solid body acoustic guitar that seems to do well without feedback.  Its the Epiphone version but to me it doesn't feel, sound or look at all like an acoustic.  I hate it.  But you don't loose your pick with it either at least.

Dave Matthews started out on one of those, only it was a Gibson... sounds like an acoustic only when plugged in. Playing them in the store left me uninspired.

Re: Why does Joe....

Yeah its really my dads.  He found it at a pawn shop and is a huge chet atkins fan, so he thought it must be a good guitar with his name on it.  WRONG!  He got ripped straight off, I told him to take it back but he thought it was fixable.  First the pots would cut in and out.  I sprayed contact cleaner on those things and it did nothing for it.  We took it to a local repairman and he replaced something on it's circuit board.  That helped the pots from popping and cutting out but we lost about half the power from the volume doing what ever he did.  Now you have to turn your amp up twice as loud and you get this ice pick sound from the piezio.  LETS JUST SAY THEIR IS A REASON DAVE DOESN'T PLAY THEM ANYMORE AND THEY DON'T HAVE CHET'S GOOD NAME ON THEM EITHER!  This ones going up on EBay in a few days.

I've got that same guitar...always thought it sounded like crap.  I turned the tone knob down a bit and BAM, this gorgeous sound came out.  Not the most natural, but most acoustics dont sound natural when plugged in...it definately did the trick, and is comparable (yet different) to my guild
