Topic: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

Don´t know if this has been posted before, but they made a pretty good record called "Tijuana Bible" which features Joe on Leadguitar on a song called "Deep water Lullaby". It´s cool. cool

P.S.: Got to give credit where credit is due - my dad bought it. lol

Nice discussion on this earlier:

Worth mentioning again for sure...

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

Sorry for double-mentioning it - I knew that if I didn´t use the search function one time, it´s gonna be like that - DOH! lol

But yes, the album is worth mentioning again .....

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Eva.  I had not read the previous discussion either (possibly because the thread was the album title "Tijuana Bible 2/17" and had not realised it was in reference to Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat. It seems interesting, and an intriguing  set of cover versions too! smile

Meanwhile I´ve got "Dirt road", another very nice, more acoustic Jim Suhler album from 2003.

I, too, have Dirt Road, and really like Jim Suhler.  The problem is I now get most of my music on iTunes and they have very little of his music.  I'm sure the album Eva mentioned is a good one cause Jim knows his way around a guitar and has an interesting approach to contemporary Blues.

As David was writing you find something about the new album in the first thread

There is also mentioned that "Tijuana Bible" is not yet published in the States. But you can order by amazon.de

I had a word with Jim on FB a few days ago and asked about both the new cd and the possibility of any Dutch shows.

Me: Any chance of a Dutch show while you're over here?
Jim: Maybe

Me: Any news on a release date for the new cd?
Jim: Nope

There was a bit more to our dialogue than that, but those were his verbatim answers. Fingers crossed, wait and see.  neutral

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

Just posted by Jim on FB -

"Alright, I'm on two cd's coming out this summer. one with Buddy Whittington & Vince Converse and this one with George Thorogood & the Destroyers.
Special guests include Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite and more."

The press release about the GT cd is a nice read - I'll post it in a GT topic.  wink

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

I got to meet up with Jim Suhler in August 2009.. Overall nice guy.. he put on a killer show with George in NYC.

Definitely a great band to see live, I would also like to see him with his own band.

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

Jim´s website is a bit sleepy: the new album is still announced for February 2011, the tour dates end with April 1st.

November 6 - Cafe Gompelhof, Belgium - Jim Suhler
http://www.gompelhof.be/
It looks that I can't see Ryan McGarvey on 6 November (but on 4 November :-) )

There are some more dates that I found on Jim Suhler's website and they don't really fit, or will he really come from Britain to Belgium for one gig and then head back to UK?

Friday, November 4 - Barrow Blues Club @ The Labour Club Barrow-In-Furnace, UK
Saturday, November 5 - Devizes Blues Club Devizes-Wilts, UK
Monday, November 7 - Famous Monday Blues Club - The Bullington Oxford, UK
Thursday, November 10 - the Forum Univ. of Hertfordshire, Herts, UK
Friday, November 11 - Bronte Blues Club Laycock Village Hall Yorkshire, UK
Saturday, November 12 - Carlisle Blues Festival - Carlisle, UK
Saturday, November 19 - Poor David's Pub Dallas, TX
Thursday, December 29 - Tolbert's Grapevine, TX
Friday, December 30 - Keys Lounge Fort Worth, TX

Re: Jim Suhler&Monkey Beat feat. Joe Bonamassa

I'm trying to find out if this one Belgian gig is really on, in between all the UK gigs. I would be SO stoked to see Jim live in this very small and intimate venue!
