Hi, I attended Monday's concert and it was my first Joe Bonamassa show. I've only been into his music about 18 months or so and have the Blues Deluxe, You and Me, Sloe Gin and the latest Live album. None of these albums prepared me for what I saw on that Monday night!

Quite a few posters have commented about Joe concert newbies and jaws hitting the floor, well that is exactly how I described it to my mate Andy after the show. I am 47 years old and have seen lots of concerts and practically every great Rock guitarist save Clapton and Hendrix but I have never seen a performance like that. This was no ordinary experience for me, I was absolutely transfixed during the whole performance and can remember actually shaking my head at times because I just couldnt believe what I was seeing. Without want to appear to be crude, the only way i can describe it is that I almost vomited my heart at one point! I thought my chest was going to explode and believe me I was totally drug free.

I still dont know how to describe Monday night adequately. Normally I would be wary of gigs by guitar virtuosos (I saw Zappa in 77 or 78 in Manchester and it felt like a 3 hour noise guitar solo) but this just transcended all my preconceptions. People actually looked shell-shocked leaving the gig afterwards.

WOW!!!!!!!!

Re: Manchester rescheduled concert.

Thanks Eva.

Am I to presume that the RAH gig will be made in to a DVD? Fingers-crossed. I have the Rockplast one but only watched it today as I didnt want to spoil my first Bonamassa live experience.

You know if they has recorded the Manchester gig and shown it on the BBC here in the UK, Joe would be a sensation. I've never seen him on UK TV. He'd fit in very well on Later With Jools Holland.

Re: Manchester rescheduled concert.

Welcome Tony. Beware of using Frank's name in vain here...(I am among the devoted)....rent/buy Zappa Plays Zappa...it may change your mind now that your taste has "matured". There is something VERY powerful about the current shows....moving indeed. I think you had a perfect Bonabaptism...You'll never be the same!    Cathy

Yes, there will be a DVD shot - and they will play as an 8 piece band (with a second drummer and horns) ... you can read all about it in the 5 million pages about the RAH in General topics ... wink

Ticket sale starts tomorrow at 9am! smile

Re: Manchester rescheduled concert.

Just like to say that I was a Bonamassa "virgin" before last Monday's gig but man what a baptism!  I'm no spring chicken myself, and in the past I've seen a few good 'uns (Winter, Gallagher, California, McPhee, Trout, Clapton, Montoya etc etc) but I've waited a few days to let the euphoria die down, but still I can't think of a single gig that was better than last Monday nights.

Joe is the man. Spread the word.

Don't get me wrong, I am perfectly Zappa-savvy. You obviously didnt catch the Shut Up and Play Your Guitar tour in 1979. It was certainly a challenge. wink

My tastes are mainly mainstream: Gary Moore, Alex Lifeson, Santana, Hackett, Howe, Blackmore, Hendrix, page plus Fripp, Holdsworth and a few obscure Prog gods...

Yes, I mentioned the dreaded Prog Rock! I'm Admin at Progarchives.com. Don't throw anything too hard at me. lol

Re: Manchester rescheduled concert.

Does anyone have the actual set list Joe played at Manchester ?

Hi Reed Lover,

Great to hear about your Bonabaptism in Manchester, believe me I totally understand how you felt, I first saw Joe in Crewe last Feb. There really are no words to describe the live experience!

Don't worry about the Prog thing, Joe likes it too and is a big fan of Howe. And there's more than a few Prog albums in our house, like a whole cabinet full!

If I'm alive when I'm 99 I'm still gonna be saying, "Remember 4th May 2009 when we saw Joe at the RAH... what a night that was!"
