Topic: amp cabs

If you were to be running a multi-amp setup, do the cabs have to have stereo capabilities?

I just asked a boutique buildier if his cabs have sterio capabilities and he told me that his 2x12 slant cab (like a Marshall 1960) is but since the speakers are verticle it didn't really make sense. And also with his normal 2x12 cabs are but again, it didn't make sense because the speakers are to close together.

Anyone know what he meant by all this?  I can post the actual email later.

I have only played through combo amps, and this is my first time dealing with stacks of any kind, especially multi amps. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Logan

Re: amp cabs

Do you want to play both amps at the same time? Or, are you switching between them?

Re: amp cabs

I use 4 2x12 cabs - one for each head, but if you look at Joe's, he has 2 4x12.  Also his are oversized, so IDK what that has to do with the seperation ,if anything at all.  Anything you do though will have an effect on your sound.  Dealers choice really....

Re: amp cabs

joe uses two 4 x 12's that are internally vertically separated, so they are like 2 x 12's internally.  They have ev12l speakers and are wired parallel at 8 ohms per side.  We have built his next set-happy to build you some just like his.

Don
Very nice about the Cabinet deal with Joe.  It's great to see such a well deserving company like yours get out there like that.  Props!!!

I still want to talk to you about an amp but I have a lot of stuff going on right now.  I'll call you soon.

Actually I wouldn't mind buying Joes current cabs when he's done with them. I'm sure he'll be happy with his new Cat 5 cabs. I'm also in the market for some old Fender wood. Body and Neck is all. The electronics I will supply.

Re: amp cabs

thanks for all the help, i know joe plays through amazing everything, but if you watch the videos for ANDY live he has is 4 amp setup running through marshall cabs. What is the difference of that and having a cam that is internally chambered and all that stuff?

Re: amp cabs

Logan, I don't believe his cabs are chambered. When Don says they are vertically seperated he means split for stereo. The left top and bottom from the right top and bottom. The speakers are hooked up and switched to play in pairs top and bottom speakers in each cab. So four different combinations. The cabinets aren't chambered.

Re: amp cabs

Hi JIM,

Actually they are chambered(at least ours are)-with a vertical baffle that splits the right side from the left side.  Everything else you described is accurate.  When he had the allesandro cabs, they were baffled as well, and we built ours like that.  I'm not positive on the mojo cabs.

I should of known. Whenever I talk gear I usually have to be corrected. Sometimes by Joe.  I watched them change speakers out of the current cabs but can't remember if they were chambered. Are stereo Marshall cabs chambered?

Re: amp cabs

No, don't think the stereo marshall cabs are baffled.
