Topic: All of a sudden Eric Johnson is playing all these rosewood Strats

Lately I've seen tons of youtube videos of Eric Johnson playing various (sunburst, red, blue) Strats with rosewood necks.  Looks like he is no longer using the maple necked strats, or his signature model  Anybody read any recent interviews where he discusses this?

I remember Eric spoke about having Fender issue EJ signature w/ rosewood in a interview I saw about 3 years ago since not all were enthusiastic about only a maple neck. So maybe Fender is about to issue the EJ w/ a rosewood neck sometime soon??

Time will tell!

Yeah there's a couple videos out there of Eric demoing the new EJ signature w/ rosewood neck.

Not sure why Fender is waiting to release this
but they do hold things from time to time, like the KWS strat

I spoke to some of Eric's people at a show at the Coach House
about a year ago, and they confirmed that the rosewood EJ
was in the works, and he was playing 3 of them.
A Daphne Blue (looked cool) and a Champagne Gold
and another color I can't remember

I do remember the rosewood board had white binding
looked "different" , I'd of preferred it without the binding
but .... whatever

but it is a reality, it's just a matter of when

Didn't Fender release a few late 60's rosewood Strats with binding?  I keep thinking I had seen some in the past - I know I've seen it done with some Custom Shop stuff.

My main guitar right now is an Eric Johnson Strat.  I would LOVE to have a Rosewood EJ Strat to compliment it.  But I'd have to have a Rosey EJ Strat in my hand to really evaluate whether I'd like the binding.  However, I hope he does keep the same neck carve.

Pending release...apparently on the fence about having it with binding or not.

I had heard/read that the binding makes/puts the guitar at a higher price point than they wanted it.  They wanted it in line with with the Maple version's price.

If it comes without binding, I'll get one for sure.  If it has it I'd have to think about it.
