Topic: NYC Show 10-24-08
Well, show number ten for me was great. I got to sit immediately in front of Joe while chowing down on steak and nachos. MaryAnne Keith was a nice intro for Joe. Despite some simple guitar playing and repetitive song structure, her voice was pleasant even with a slight country twang to the end of some notes. Her voice reminded me a bit of Edie Brickell. When Joe was about to come on and behind curtain, I yelled out; "Spike Driver!". I heard an almost instant reply to my beckon with a quick Spike Driver practice riff just before they took the stage. Joe seemed to have a hand tailored suit on that showed off his new stature. The show ROCKED as usual. Blues Deluxe had yet still a new sound even compared to his recent Toads' Place show. I have to admit I do not know what the name of the new song was that he played. It was very slow, and soft guitar playing with a strong feeling of SAD emotion coming through. The lyrics seemed to say something about it raining again? If anyone knows what this new song is, I'd be happy to hear from you. Either way, I love his way of playing yet unrecorded songs live to us. It's pretty intense to be blown away with new material live! This will be the third I've heard. (Sloe Gin, Spike Driver Blues, and this new one) Mountain time was great as usual, and Just Got Paid/ Dazed and Confused was powerful. Bogie seemed to be attacking those skins like he was trying to break 'em. The crowd was almost stoic in the beginning. It didn't take long for the NYC crowd to warm up to Joe and the boys. I stood at exit to BB's after the show watching people come out with their minds having just been blown, and felt about as content as could be. I took the train home having some time to ponder how we'll be seeing him Sunday night in Ridgefield. I don't care if anyone ever makes fun of me for seeing Joe over and over. Let's face it, he's a legend in the making. We got some good pics, and I'll post them when I get them from my Brother in law. If anyone has a set list, including that new song, please contact me. Thanks for the shows Joe!
