I have been a Robben fan since 1988's Talk to Your Daughter. Saw him with Joanie Mitchel on the Miles of Aisles tour in the seventies although I didn't know who he was at the time.
Finally got to see him here in the small club a friend of mine had a a year and a half ago. Roscoe Beck on bass. He didn't disapoint. The crowd was rowdy and I think he was a bit shocked by that but warmed up to the vibe of the room. Very memorable night for a variety of reasons. You should go Gunter just don't try to bring a camera. He has this vampire's fear of photography. Other than that he was quite personable.
I saw Robben this past summer for the second time. He is truly an excellent guitarist with fantastic tone and feel. I would highly recomend him to anyone-especially to someone who also enjoys Joes music.
Definitely see him Gunter. Robben doesn't come our way too often, so I've only seen him once. He is an excellent and highly skilled guitarist, but like Jim said he detests cameras and will stop the show repeatedly until everyone puts their camera away.
Gunter,
I believe I sent Eva some Robben music, ask her. He's a damn good player, but a real prima donna, if everything goes his way you'll be blown away. Joe obviously learned a lot of tone tricks from Robben. You just have to go and hope for the best. His current bass player is Larry Carlton's son Travis, who is a great player. Definitely go and enjoy.

PS, Robben had a complete meltdown at the Monterey Blues Festival back in June which was discussed in a previous thread about Monterey.
Have seen Robben 3 times - including last year in Calif - fantastic show - recommend it !

Yes, Robben and his band did a brilliant show. They were less introvert than I had expected, much more rocking. I liked it very much and had a great evening.
They were playing in a small jazz club with a lot of rather conventional jazz fans _ you know the guys in blue club jackets with golden buttons. But people enjoyed him very much and were enthusiastic. Robben was in a good mood and showed no sign of being diva, even when some people took photos.

I must confess I had never heard of the guy when I heard he was coming to a Blues Fest a few years ago. I was about 10 feet away from him when I saw him play. Needless to say, he blew me away.

Great words of advice, truly. I've seen Robben twice. Once at the Coach House on the Keep On Running tour and once at the Galaxy with Joe on the Truth tour. At the Coach House he was talking to the crowd and stopped mid-sentence to ask some guy what the little red light beneath his arm was. Then he asked for someone (half jokingly) to call the cops. Ruined the mood for my dad and he hasn't listened to Robben since.
But yeah, find him on a good night and you'll love it. You'll be blown away either way.
Although I must profess and I'm not digging his tone these days, I miss the Politician tone!
Bleh...so many negative things!
His tech is really nice though! He offered to let me play Robben's/Larry's '57 Goldtop that he was playing at the Coach House...I didn't dare though. I merely stroked the finish. Nice guy...his name is Daved.
Cheers!
