Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

HoyHoy,

well, my name is Holger and I'm a mighty Featfan from Germany. I found this thread about Little Feat by chance and I must say that I enjoy all your great posts about my beloved band Little Feat.

I was with the band across Europe at six shows in July 2008 incl. Bospop and Nuremberg.
Every Feat show is very special due to their spontaneous setlist written some hours before the show.
At Bospop they had to resize the setlist due to only 60 minutes onstage and Paul and Bill were a bit angry because "Europe" played on the main stage pretty loud during Dixie Chicken.

Nuermberg was very relaxed for the band, because they had 2 days off before the show and 1 day after. So they all were very relaxed, had time to visit this wonderful town (Shaun Murphy mentioned this during the show) , the weather was warm and sunny and the venue (Hirsch) was nice. A very special event was the soundcheck in the afternoon. Johannes, friend of mine and drummer for long years in several bands got the job to play drums. This is not usual due to so many request of musicians worldwide , who vainly ask after for this. Johannes was in Featheaven definitely.

Hi Holger,
good that you have found your way to the forum finally. Meanwhile I´m back from Vietnam, and Eva told me that you have contacted her.

I'm not sure if she sent me that dvd too because I've got such ridiculous piles of cd's and dvd's lying around here that it could be buried somewhere - or not. I've got to sort them out, but can never find enough time. Grrrr

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Hi Bona&FeatFriends,

thanks for your nice replies.
I just checked alot of past mails even to other topics concerned with Little Feat on this message board posted thru links from Amsterhammer (sorry, don't know your real name yet).

First of all I'm a bit astonished about what you call "New Little Feat". After Lowells passing in 1979 the band reformed 1988 (20 years ago) with Fred Tackett (long time band companion since the pre-Little Feat times) and Craig Fuller. In 1994 Shaun Murphy replaced Craig Fuller, so its a bit funny to say its a NEW Little Feat band.

Lowell George was a brilliant guitarist, excellent songwriter and producer. But he's gone and Little Feat was always A BAND of individualists, never Lowell and Little Feat. So its still Little Feat and nothing more.

They are no Rock-Pop Stars, just pure musicians and very nice folks.
I asked Paul Barrere, who just grew 60 in July, how  they manage this life on tour with shows nearly every night and so much travelling. The unexpected answer was: " Being onstage with the band is pure fun! Work is between the shows waiting for the show to begin and sitting in the bus".

Haha, you know what George - next time I´m going away for a week, I´ll write a big announcement thread: "Eva is on holidays. Don´t expect any E-mails or comments from her. She´s lying in the sun doing nothing right now." lol I did think of all my Bonabuddies during the holidays (I took a picture for you, will upload it later), but as there was no internet, I couldn´t write. But it´s good to know that someone notices when I´m gone and maybe even misses me a bit tongue wink tongue.

Now that was WAY off topic, sorry - back to the Feat:

Holger, you are of course absolutely right about our term "new Little Feat" - but I think we were all aware that "new" is in quotes and that it´s wrong to speak of a "new" Band in this case... it is a fabulous Band in any of the different forms, there´s no doubt about that. smile
An interesting point would also be what you think of Shaun Murphy?! We had a discussion about her previously - I think that she really adds something to the band and I liked her singing very much.

I like Paul Barrere´s quote you posted - and I think this is something you can see and feel when you´re at a concert. The fun they have kind of "spreads" on the audience ...

Eva

P.S.: Holger, do you have any idea when they will be back?? smile

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

fat man in the bathtub...

i've also had the opportunity of jammin' with them on stage. We did Cajun Girl. Another classic and one of my faves.

I really don't know more than others, nothings fixed yet...but I heard several shows last July words onstage that "We will be back soon", so lets hope and pray.

They will play 11 shows in Europe in May 2009 (Netherlands, Norway & UK only).

Bad news about Little Feat:
After 15 years Shaun Murphy is no longer a member of Little Feat...:(

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Thanks for the update Holger (also for the mail you sent!) ... I´m pretty sad to hear that Shaun Murphy is no longer part of Little Feat, I liked her singing a lot!
Are there any rumors about a new singer yet or are they just continuing without her?!

Any chance that there might be some Germany-dates coming too? Unfortunately they´re playing Amsterdam just one day after the RAH, darn they could have played there just a FEW days earlier and we would have had another show to go to, George and Cathy  ... big_smile

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

As Cathy (quite rightly) just pointed out, 'why would the universe have put the Feat right there on our patch at that time' if we weren't meant to go to a show together? (Cathy and I also share a love of the Feat going back to the 70's).

The Melkweg show is the day after Joe, and despite that being the obvious venue for us as it's literally around the corner from me, I can't see us getting back from London in time since I reckon that the Monday night is going to get very late. So it looks like it'll have to be Hardenberg on the Wednesday. Andre?

As for the departure of Shaun - it's always sad when things like this happen but in all honesty, I never really warmed to her or felt that the Feat needed a female singer.

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

I think the Feat fans here must make an effort to see them!!! I may need a wheelchair by then, but I'm game big_smile  I hope Shaun has a happy future too, but I share George's opinion. I found her distracting and liked the parts of the shows when she didn't sing. I still miss Lowell...I guess I always will. FEAT! FEAT! FEAT!.....hold up lighter....F-E-A-T.....Cathy
