When I had ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, Pat Metheny and Alan Holdsworth sign my guitar, I carefully traced over it with clear nail polish. It has lasted for 12-15 years now. It's not smooth but it's protected and has lasted years.
You can take it to a local luthier or maybe even a body shop and have it professionally sprayed/clear coated.
I had Paul Reed Smith sign my back plate on both my PRS's...I took them off and replaced them with plain ones. I keep the autographed ones for safe keeping in a sealed plastic bag.
On my acustic I had Tommy Shaw, Jason Bonham and Mick Jones sign it. I didn't do anything to them and now all that's left of Tommy's name is "y Shaw"
Well, honestly I would replace the pickguard to a new one and put the signed one
on a shelf or so. But if you want it that way then I would spray a clear coat over it.

Before you put anything near the signature I would do a test using the same pen that was used just to make sure that it doesn't come off. Ideally you should have prepared the surface of the pick guard with sand paper before getting it signed so the laquer has something to hold on to.

So i have to call Joe to have is pen hehehehe xD!!! Maybe I can try with another permanent pen...someone told me to try with the spray for the hair...I don't know how you call it but I'm afraid...

Until you figure it out I'd get a new pickguard and put the autographed one somewhere safe.
If it looks like a normal permanent marker then have a trial run with one of those. As another thought, what about [Blue Peter mode] clear sticky-back-plastic? [/Blue Peter mode]
you could have the pickguard laminated or you could spray multiple layers of clearcoat over it...
...have Joe sign another one as back-up...
honestly... I would take it off of the guitar and replace it with another one.

Ive had jb and double trouble sign my guitar, its kind of a signature collection all on one guitar. I still play it all the time. the DT signatures are wearing off even though it was done with a sharpie. I don't care though, I'm not ever going to sell it - and I want to play it out. good conversation piece.
just play it man. if you ever need another one signed, you know where you can find Joe.

Like I said before. Get clear nail polish and trace over the signature. It doesn't look that bad and it really protects the signature. I had my guitar signed years ago and all the signatures are still intact.
Sharpies will wear off in a week.
I replaced my signed pickguard with a new one as it allready started fading a little bit. It's hanging on the wall along with a JB pick.
