Topic: Walter Trout in Europe

Walter has an extended tour in Europe starting in Sept. I noticed he'll be there while Joe is..I wonder if these 2 friends will hook up? "Clouds on the Horizon"? If you get a chance, catch a show! He's a great guy, s killer player and fun to watch!                    Cathy

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

For our European friends, it appears that the harmonica phenomenon Jason Ricci will be joining Walter for a few select dates, if you can make it, I virtually guarantee an amazing show....Jason can really "throw down" on the blues harp.  There's a little so-so footage of the two of them from the Ottowa (I think) blues festival on YouTube, but due to the limitations of digital camera video/audio, it probably doesn't do them justice.  Go see them together if you can!

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

Cathy, you're so right! Great player, great songwriter, and the greatest guy! Me and Renee have been huge fans of Walters for some time now and Walter did the coolest thing for us when we saw him the only time this year at the Prairie Dog Blues Fest in Prairie du Chien, WI in late July. Walter didn't know we were going to be there, but when he came on stage and saw us standing front and center he smiled and said hi to us. Then, later on in his set when he was playing songs off his new CD, "The Outsider", he leaned into the microphone and said, "I would like to dedicate this next song to Lee and Renee", and proceeded to play "A Matter Of The Heart". Needless to say, we were both floored and honored by Walter's gesture!

And Carl, I quote you because Jason Ricci and New Blood played right before Walter that night and Jason joined Walter for two songs, one which was "Child Of Another Day" from Walter's "The Outsider". Needless to say, it was absolutely fantastic!!!  He also called Jason, "The best harmonica player he's ever heard." I remember replying to a topic about Jason you started a couple years ago after seeing him for the first time. I believe  I said what Walter said and I still believe it!

Walter and Jason together for a whole night would most definitely receive my highest recommendation!

Here's a video I found on YouTube from that night (picture and sound quality just so-so): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ch2m5N8OHM4

I'll try and dig up a couple photos from that night and post them here, too.

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

I'll be there - 2nd October in Edinburgh, support is Oli Brown so two great acts for the price of one! big_smile

Is Jason Ricci the harmonica player on the studio version of Child Of Another Day?

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

Matt

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

Matt!! Stop jumping around and look! September 7th Monaghan Rhythm & Blues festival
Now I know that's in Southern Ireland, but George says "It ain't that far"...    Cathy

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

Hey Cathy, yeah your right big_smile. Must have missed that one.

It would actually work out quite handy, Monaghan is close to the border. Though most places in Ireland aren't that far away lol.

Looks like its quite a late festival, artists don't come on until like 11 or 12am.

Thanks!

Matt

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

Just found out that Walter will be gracing us with his presence at The M Club in Crewe on the 6th of October, the place of my Bonabaptism back in February.

Support says tbc on their site, and as yet there is nothing on Oli's site saying he'll be there. Am going either way, but it'd be a nice double-header if it did happen. cool

Re: Walter Trout in Europe

You will really enjoy him Paul. I got to go to the BluesRock Festival in Holland with my Bonabuddys during my visit. For Eva, George and Geko it was their first Walter show. He really is a funny guy! Hope you have a great time.     Cathy

You'll appreciate this, Cathy.....

When Walter played Moondog's last month, a friend of mine, Donnie, who was on crutches following a motor cycle accident, was watching from the side stage.  After Walter finished his first set, Donnie hobbles up to him, in his best "poor gimp on crutches in a crowded room" act, and sez....."Ya know, Walter, I'm a guitar player, and I know you've got some mean chops.....but could you turn to the side a couple times so I can see yer licks?  From where I'm sittin', all I can see is your fat @ss....."

Walter about died laughin'.....

And when the second set started, he came off the side stage, and played directly in front of Donnie.....not just for a minute or two.....but for the first 4 songs!!!  Laughin' his @ss off the entire time.....
