Re: Cable Quest

Man....just get some bulk Mogami or Canare cable and some Neutrik plugs and make your own....or have the dude at Lava Cable solder 'em.

there is definitely a difference in the quality of cables and especially the plugs. I bought a Fedner cable once (it looked cool because it was tweed covered) and when I replaced the plugs on it and removed the shrink-tubing I couldn't believe how flimsy the plugs were and how thin the actual copper wire was....they obviously put all the money into the pretty cover and not the cable or ends.

As to Monster cables....just because something sounds "brighter" doesn't mean it's better. You can tweak the capacitance of a cable in any direction you want....for more highs or lows. The prices for those cables are just stupid IMO.

At $130+ for the Accusound cables I'd have to ber REAL convinced in a blind test before I dropped that kind of money....sounds like "woo woo" to me.

"why isn't the number "11" pronounced "onety one"???....S. Wright.

Re: Cable Quest

Budda was right Guitar Player just had an excellent issue on cables and pedalboards.  They inteviewed alot of the major pedalboard guys, Cornish,  Bradshaw,  Analogman, etc. Tonequest just put out an issue about pedalboards as well.  They had a fantastic interview with Pete Cornish.  The one thing all these guys seemed to agree was that the cable from your guitar to your first pedal is the most important, especially with passive pickups.  If you go straight to your amp then your good.  Cornish also explained that having a pedalboard full of true bypass pedals is not necessarly a good thing.  The already weak guitar signal has to travel through many feet of cable unassisted which results in tone loss until a pedal is turned on which can change the tone dramaticly.  Cornish uses buffers in between pedals to help the signal along the way.  I use a VHT Valvulator as a buffer first in line on my pedalboard.  You can readily tell the difference with it in or out of the loop.  Also with a good buffer it is less dependant on high dollar cables after the buffer.  I use a good Monster Cable to go from my guitar to my pedalboard then my budget cables to run from my pedalboard to my amp or amps.
