Topic: Blues Deluxe at Shepherd's Bush - technique used in solo

This is one of my favorite solos by Joe and live is even better.  I rarely memorize solos note for note but I do like to dissect them and take out my favorite parts and incorporate them into my own improvising.

In the Shepherd's Bush recording right around 4:58, Joe creates what sounds like a flurry of harmonics that just sound brilliant.  I think what he is doing to get these is while trilling with the fretting hand, he is lightly brushing his his picking hand across the length of the string creating different harmonics.  Anyone else agree or disagree?

I happened to be listening to that as I read this post. I have been wondering that myself. That's one of those things where I wish there was a video. Should be interesting to hear what this is.

Fretwork,

Check out this video of Joe playing "Blues Deluxe" shot during the same tour. The part you're talking about occurs at almost the exact same time:

I do believe you're right!

Oh yes. Im standing about one feet to the left with my girlfriend. The first time I saw Joe. It blew my mind.

What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wild beasts sweeping majestically over the fields?
