Topic: Give Strats a Break.

I know most of you are Les Paul users on here and granted..they are awesome instruments.  At one time I owned 5 and I'm still kicking myself in the **** for ever trading or selling them off.
Today I use mainly a '92 PRS, a '83 Gibson 335 and a custom made (not Fender) Strat with my Fuchs rig.  I know Joe doesn't like or use them any more and boycotts any Fenders on stage but you have to admit, a Strat is a pretty incredibly expressive guitar.

There are still some dedicated single coil guys out there.  My question is;  I am interested in the Duncan Five-Two's  Has anyone tried them yet and what did you think?  I'm thinking of swapping out a set.

I love Strats, but I got a little ticked off when I saw what Fender did to Joe (the gold strat mess). I have never tried the Duncan Five-Two's, but I've heard good things about them. Do you have any photos of the 335?

Yea.  That was pretty cold of Fender.  I don't blame Joe at all.  That's why I try to stay with smaller companies.  You getter better service and respect.  Companies like Fuchs and Accusound..you can call and actually talk to the owner and the guy who built your stuff.

I remember when Boogie was just starting out.  You could call and actually talk to Randell Smith or in '92 I ordered my PRS off of Paul himself.

About the 335:
I could take a few.  It's a beautiful light yellow sunburst with a slight flame to the front and back.  I bought it off the wall in 1983.  When I worked at a music store in '92 a Gibson rep asked who refinished the guitar.  No one I said, that's the way it came.  He said he had been with the company for over 15 years and hadn't seen this color before.  Since then I've been offered quite a few dollars for it.  It's mint...hardly a wear mark...all original.

Where can I post them?  I'd actually like to post my whole rig.

The Rivera amp I have really sparkles with a strat.  Paul Rivera made the Twin Reverb II and the SuperChamp (I think) for Fender before he split. I believe you can still talk to Paul Rivera if you want to.

The thing is, I built my first strat from ebay parts. And this new one I'm working on has a luthier body. I figure why buy a strat when you can build one the way you like it? It'd be much harder to make a lespaul.

Another strat guy here...hope I didn't just seal my doom at the JB forum but hey - I can't deny it!  For me its s tone thing.  My ear just likes to hear what a strat brings.  Ok that'a all I've got...as you were.

I'm sure there are a great number of forum members who play or prefer strats to LP's. I'm one of them. But I'm looking forward to getting my new JB LP!

You'll find a few that'll bash Fender out of loyalty to JB. Thats their business.

I'm a Strat guy. But, mine are not Fenders, they're ones that were built from kit parts. My main squeeze has the Jimmie Vaughan Tex Mex pickups in them, a great pickup if you're looking for something inexpensive. Really awesome.

I dig Fenders and I dig Gibsons. Own a couple of each and haven't been playin them, I can certainly appreciate what they both can do. Been playin acoustic.

Strats bring something to the table that can't be replicated.  Mine was actually assembled by a great luthier Dave Lautner who left Pittsburgh to my chagrin to get a job at Gruhn's in Nashville.  He's now on his own.  After I played every new strat hanging on a wall within 50 miles radius of Pittsburgh, and hating them all, I asked Dave to make one to my specs.  It kills...although I'm tired of the pickups...they are Duncan classics...whatever, I don't know but the just aren't  "spankin'" enough with the Fuchs.   My PRS neck pickup has more sparkle than the strats.

I'm gonna try the Duncan Five-Two's

Danny - he's not well known, but he makes some killer pups for strat, tele, LP, you name it...

If you want a fat, round, spanky strat tone - this is it IMO.

Pretty much every audio sample on my site was recorded using a guitar fitted with Tex Tone pups.

I checked out Oceanefx's site.  Great pedals.  I know Joe likes the the Pearl Drive a lot...for good reason but check out the clean boost, the comp and the vintage echo...I'll take all four, please!  I'm blown away.
