Topic: Joe's strat

Does anyone know what kind of pickups Joe used when he played strats?

Re: Joe's strat

Joe played quite a few different strats over the years, and I am not sure of the pickup details on them with the exception of the Eric Clapton Stratocaster which he uses on the ANDY Live DVD.  That guitar comes with three gold lace sensor pickups.

Re: Joe's strat

If anything I'd say his most popular strat is the famous "gold f***ing sparkle strat" which Joe is quoted to say is a piece of crap. So I don't really think it matters what pickups are in it, the tone was in the fingers.

Re: Joe's strat

This questions been asked before, I'd do a search.

If I had to wager a guess there were Fralins?
But like they say...who cares. Joe didn't really like that strat anyway.

Its funny media photographers would only take pictures for the first song or two, and the bulk of the photos would be of the gold sparkle strat. Take the photos and go home. You Upset Me Baby.

Thank you all. Yeah I guess he could play anything and make it sound amazing.

Re: Joe's strat

The Gold Strat originally had real 65 electronics
I know Joe mentioned he had Lindy Fralin rewire the pups at one time

and Joe also mentioned on single coils, he likes
"anything by Lindy Fralin and Seymour Duncan Antiquities"

I like the You Upset Me Baby tones, and get closer to it with Antiquities

Seems I get closer when I use the slight overwound pups

hence
Fralin Blues Specials
or
Antiquity Texas Hots

is probably a good bet

I absolutly love these guitars. I'm a relatively new fan and when I saw Joe live I very confused as to what it was, but I've come to really love them. Thanks for the link (does this count as later??)
