Topic: Les Paul Supreme

Tried this out yesterday expecting to hate it, but it was wonderful.  I'm trying to decide whether to go back to GC and pull the trigger, $2899 4th of July sale.  any opinions or warnings? Dave

If heartaches were nickels, I'd have 35 cents!

Re: Les Paul Supreme

If you can find something similar at a local mom and pop shop you'll prolly get it for the same price but without tax. That's to say you'll get it roughly $200 bucks cheaper and with tax you'll break even with the GC price.

I'd say play your cards for awhile before springing on 1 guitar, you know? Spending months finding that perfect guitar that just comes alive in your hands is well worth the wait. Plus $3100 (that's with tax) is a lot of money, and because it's the GC you're not the first one to play it and put it back on the wall. I'd say find the smallest (while still significant) things to bump the price down. That's scratches to the finish, any buckle rash, pick scratches, fret wear, random bump marks on the ever so soft nitro...that kind of thing. Get what you're paying for!

Not exactly any word on Supremes in general...but Gibson has their good and bad days as far as quality control, so if you found a good one then kudos!

And if you decide to get it, take some pictures!

Re: Les Paul Supreme

No, my question was on the supreme model itself, I've got 40 guitars and have been playing for 30 years.  I'm bought and sold more guitars than I remember.  This one had a beautiful flame top and back.  I would have bought it on the spot except for 3 very small dings, not suprising it's been at GC for a year and we all know what great care they take of their stuff.  Maybe it was just the setup, a high gain amp, the stars and moons, but it really played and felt great.  I'll bet I won't find one I like as well, but the dings would bug me, especially paying full price for a floor demo.  I do wonder with the closed back if there are any issues working on the electronics, I'm really not familiar with this model.  but this exact guitar played great.

Hey Doc, on life in general and spending $$$ in particular, if you're hesitant, wait.  I went testing through a lot of nice motorcycles and 30 seconds after I sat on this one I bought.

Played a lot of nice basses, found this 74 Jazz 25 odd years ago, and had to have it right then.  It fit me.  There was no argument, no hesitation.  I still have it.

Went through a lotta girlfri...uh naw,

In that case go wave 2500 cash under their nose.  You know how it's done.  Dings don't bother me if the fingers and planets and cubans are in line...oops

Ah my bad, but I think I mentioned somewhere in there that none of it was about Supremes...in any case I still don't know much about them, but again, good luck!

Re: Les Paul Supreme

For whatever reason, the supremes dont seem to be very popular. They were more chambered than most when they came out, so maybe that was part of it. I have played a few and they were nice playing, nice sounding guitars, though closer to a BFG in sound to me, because of the chamber setup. Not that that is a bad thing. Only way to tell is play one, then plug in a reissue or some other non-chambered LP and see what sound you like. I was doing this last night between my R9 and my BFG(refinished).  Of course, being a tung oil finish on my BFG refin wont sound the same on a nicely laquered supreme, I think the supreme would be much warmer than my BFG. Beautiful guitars.

Guitars / Basses it's all the same. When you get a 'shiner' in your hands.....

No one and nothing will stop you having it.

A bit like marriage,if you have to think about it ,or ask for advice ,the answer should be NO.
