Re: orange drop capacitors?

Hi,

if the digits are saying the resistance then the 472k should be for HB
and the 223 for SC. Have you measured them?

Re: orange drop capacitors?

The orange drops that came on my Paul standard are stamped 223. I replaced mine with RS Guitarworks stuff but I still have them around so I checked. You should be good to put them on Humbuckers.

I'm assuming Gibsons right.

Re: orange drop capacitors?

Hi,

In my Les Paul is a 0, 047mF paper oil capacitor which is a typical value for HB guitars
and in my strat is a 0, 022mF cap.

The digits 223 and 472 that are stamped on your orange drops were suggesting me the capacity but it doesn't seem so. You can measure the capacity with a multimeter to make sure.

Good luck

Re: orange drop capacitors?

223k equals a 0.022uf cap and a 472k is a 0.0047uf cap.  I've installed up to .022uf on SG's and Pauls for those players who asked for it.  If you use the .0047 cap, you might not even notice a change.  I recommend using Jupiter Beeswax .022uf on most solid bodied guitars-but that also depends on the type of pot your using and pickups.  Vitamin Q's are also quite good.  I have Sozo 0.033 in my LP right now.  I think I have .047uf's in my Tele.

Best thing is to get several different values and just try them out to find which sounds the best.

OK, so I'll put the .47uf in my strat...

.047uf. smile

But again...it all depends on your set up and the guitar itself. Some tele's actually have a bleed thru cap to help cut down on treble beside the tone cap.  I'm at the Hospital at the moment but I have a bunch of good info at the house for this kinda thing.  You could put a capacitor on the actual switch itself for even more tonal variety.
