Topic: Journey at Newcastle
Hi folks. I don't know if any of you are Journey fans but I have always had a soft spot for them. I had never seen them live before and so hubby drove us up to see thaem at the Metro Radio Arena on Saturday night.
I had heard good things about the new singer Arnel Pineda and he certainly delivered. What a fantastic voice, more than a little similar to Steve Perry. He was running from one side to the other and jumping in the air having the absolute time of his life and smiling from ear to ear.
Neal Schon's playing is really wonderful, such soaring, melodic solos. The whole band played their hearts out. A couple of times Arnel left the stage while continuing to sing. It was as if he was taking himself out of the spotlight so the focus was on the rest of the band. He has given Journey a new lease of life it's said and I think that's true.
They played several tracks off the new album Revelation which were great but the audience really became alive when they played Open Arms, Don't Stop Believin', Wheel In The Sky and Faithfully, singing along at the tops of their voices. I was too.
It was a real feelgood concert. A totally different musical experience to a Joe show but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's been a great weekend
