Re: What kind of pick do you use?

Depends on the day1

Jazz III's a lot for mucking around at home doing single note stuff....but I tend to find them a bit tricky for live work with lots of rhythm playing, esp strumming. I use the XL size jazz III's too.....I like them a lot.

Dunlop Tortex 1mm, or Nylon 1mms are good.....but the nylons wear out so fast. Then again, I find the tortex ones a bit 'clacky;.

D'addario make a nice .99mm tortex type pick as well, I'll buy those if nothing else is available.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

Once you go Jazz III...you never go back!   I prefer the red ones.

I went from using Jazz III to Dunlop Gator pics with the powder on them... been using them for 7 years. Might be time to switch back to the red Jazz III's

Dunlop Jazz III (red) thanks to Mr. Bonamassa.  Improved my bebop and straight ahead jazz playing a ton.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I use this one, I believe Joe plays the same:

Now i just have to wait to get famous... lol

Ok joke aside, I use Dunlop Tortex 1mm (the blue ones).
They are perfect (for me). They are hard but with a rest of flexibility.
Also they don't feel that plastic like with a pleasant rawness.
I hit the strings with the round side of the pick. The reason for this
is that I used to use a coin as pick for many years
(australian 5 cent, or englich sixpence).
Also I read later that SRV did the same which really amused me...

I believe Reverend Gibbons used to use a peso as a pick...

V-Pick mediums.  I played Jazz IIIs for years, and tried these on a whim.  Really nice picks, with the same feel of a Jazz III (nice warm articulate sound), but easier to hold, and little easier for rhythm playing

Me too. I just find it hard to play guitar with. Mind you, it's ok if it's in a hot chicken baguette, except that the crumbs get everywhere when you hit the low E.

Did you have a 'prior to that' for guitar Roy? wink

I don't use a pick for nose picking, just my finger. And I use a red Jazz III for guitar picking. I have the black ones too, but seem to prefer the red ones more. Prior to that I used a Fender Heavy pick.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I actually used a Jazz III last week for the first time, after fooling around with various styles and sizes, and I must say it works really well, and it's very precise. By that I mean that I can now hit bum notes very precisely!! smile    (practice...practice...practice)

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

For Gibson Les Paul or similar I tend to use an old sixpence coin for the majority of my playing.  If i hold the coin lightly the sound will be quite bright and if i grip the coin it can be really dark.  Using Fender Strat i would always opt for normal pick the thicker the better.
