Topic: Anyone in Philadelphia?
Hi there, a group of ten of us are heading down to the Bahamas this weekend for two weeks, but we are stopping over on Friday night in Philly. Can anyone recommend where we can catch some good live music?

Can't help you Geoff. But after the Flyers lose tonight there's gonna be some angry folks around Philly. If you want to have a good time slip on a Penguins/Steelers jersey and walk around the town saying Crosbys the best. In all seriousness I'm sure there's some fine clubs around Philly. There's just a huge cross state rivalry between Pittsburgh and Philly.
PENS RULE!
Hi Geoff,
Check out this link for a calendar of events, both venues accessible from the airport.

Options are:
The Tin Angel
http://www.theholmesbrothers.com/
and Warmdaddies

This is another venue in the heart of two colleges, also accessible from the airport.
Check out the artists links for what they sound like...If it were me, I'd pick one of the first 2 options

Have a blast in the Bahamas!!! Have a Pina Colada with the little fancy umbrella on me. Lucky you!
And Pittsburgh Jeff-Keep your negative Philly sports vibe to yourself, we all practice exorcism on a regular basis to break our sports curse!!
The 76ers may come through for us, the Flyers have backed themselves into a corner, but their is still hope somewhere around the bend...;)

Geoff...I don't know the venue, Tin Angel, but if the Holmes Brothers are there, I strongly recommend seeing them. I wish it was a touch closer because I'd come see you. If I find any other options I'll get back to you. Have a great time. Cathy
Geoff, don't forget to hit Geno's for a big ol' greasy Philly cheesesteak sandwich while you're there. It's a Philly tradition.
Where's The Beef?

Pat's steaks...9th & Passyunk. 3 AM after band job and copius amounts of poisonous bellywash. Gotta have grease and onions to cut through that 100 proof gut.
dawg-how do you know about Geno's? Geno is quite the character, good heart and maybe misunderstood, a little rough around the edges. He was kicked out of the local parish elementary school as a kid, but became very wealthy later on selling cheesesteaks and has given them large donations for school improvements...he is quite the philanthropist other places too. They came to his defense when Geno was under scrutiny for something politically incorrect and controversial, so to speak...it ruled in his favor last month. The pastor of the parish grew up down the street from me in the suburbs, had a crush on my sister when he was really young, played a song on his acoustic guitar at my wedding and baptized my first child.

Geoff-Cathy's advice sounds good! I've missed a few things at the Tin Angel, but have heard nothing but positive feedback about the place.
I know about Geno's from a friend from Philly who lived here for awhile and recently moved back. Also heard about him on Food Network and Travel Channel. We have Philly Cheesesteak shops in the East Bay, reasonable facscimilies, but not the real deal. Anyhow they all have a picture of Geno's among other things Philly in each store. I like mine with sweet peppers, YUM!!! and yes I know about the age old debate, Geno's or Pat's, What'll it be?
More Napkins Please,

Angela, thanks ever so much, both of those venues appeal to me, so it would be great to drag our crew along to sample some down home American Blues. I'm chompin at the bit already. I checked out world cafe (they hosted BDS not so long back) but the acts did not appeal. The Proclaimers are exiles from Scotland and not my cup of tea at all! Much sooner have some genuine American music. We're up early Saturday morning to fly down to Freeport. Then we stay at Ocean Reef Yacht Club

for a couple of weeks, drinking Bahama Mamas and diving with sharks and stuff. I'll get round to posting some pics - if I survive - just to p&%% you all off
Seriously, thanks for the tips, I'm half expecting Michael to show up, but there's no Joe Show, and where there's no Joe, there's no show, so no Michael! Love and peace everybody!

I hope Philadelphia shows you some City of Brotherly Love hospitatlity and I have my fingers crossed for your luggage at the airport, especially when Big Brother uncovers that Geoff really is a speedo loving European! Just kidding ya' Geoff... Have a wonderful vacation! (BluesMan-Shut up!)
Jdawg-not relating to the rivalry, I'll send you an e-mail later.

Send me one, too. Did I step on someone's toes? Don't know Geno.
Geoff..You are right about the food at Warmdaddy's..I love their cornbread!! And the salad with pecans!!! Have a safe and rewarding trip!! Add me to the list of jealous!!!! Cathy
Hey bigjeff,
Both establishments are well known for their cheesesteaks. By trying not to be a blabbermouth, I caused confusion, which must mean I was meant to be a blabbermouth.
Geno personally has been under fire for placing a small note in his window that asks patrons to please place their order in English. It caused a huge uproar, received national media attention and he had to go to court on discrimination charges brought against him. Last month it was ruled in his favor, since he did not deny anyone service, just asked that they speak English! The banter back and forth in between had lots of folks hot under the collar, especially when Geno went into how some of the immigrants of today are different than his Italian ancestors who wanted to learn English and were truly proud to be an American. Now, I'm gonna' shut my mouth tight, before I ruffle anyone's feathers, like one of those Philadelphia Mummers...;) http://www.phillymummers.com/stringbands.htm Do take note however, how Geoff O. is mum on what's in his luggage...
