At first I didn't know what to think of the intro Jim and then of course, the man himself. I just love Stills' voice......so your finding of that one led me to this one, thanks.. When I saw them in Chicago a few years back in front of thousands of people, it was absolutely so quiet you could have heard a pin drop when they did this one....

I'm a little scared Jim. Last night you please me by referencing an obscure Mellencamp album I love, and also Storyville...then today, you post this which I posted on my Facebook page for my friends. Turned onto this song when the Black Crowes covered it a few years back...amazing stuff. I love the Mannassas album - still's best work and a top 50 album in my book.
Jim, I think we have a lot of music in common...
Me too Jim. First Brubeck, now Stills.

I saw Stephen solo last July in Santa Cruz the night of the MLB All-Star Game. One of the best nights I'd had in years. I posted a review here, but couldn't find it. It was definitely the cure to another boring All-Star Game. Don't get me wrong, I love baseball, but All-Star Games are a complete waste and I've even been to two of them.

We must have caught him on the same circuit John. That's when we last saw him here - 7/22/07 - and, he WAS great. I have some video clips I should try to send you.

I never saw Mansassas live but have worn out the LP's twice. Replaced it on CD. That album is in my top ten. It was recorded at the Caribou Ranch in Colorado. The first time I heard it we were on vacation in Colorado. It's a soundtrack of those times for me.
My son went to Colorado his senior year I sent the CD along and made him promise to play it while in the mountains. It is in his top ten now too.
Sorry I'm scarring you Chris. Just can't help we got the same good taste especially Stills. I'm sure we could find something we could disagree on.

Wanna fight about it?

It was 7/10 at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. That place has been around so long I used to get in under age. The drummer and bass player were Joe Vitale and Kenny Passarelli who were in Barnstorm with Joe Walsh. Did they close the show with Joe Walsh's Rocky Mtn. Way that you saw? I remember Stephen letting his feelings for George W. being known as he broke into For What It's Worth and everybody in the room busted out their herb. It was like a quick trip back to the '60's.
Peace & Love,

Never saw them live either, but I got a hold of a CD version that still gets a lot of play. I'm glad Chris Hillman didn't follow Bernie Leadon from the Burrito Bros. into the Eagles or he might not have been available to join Manassass, which he was a vital part of. Saw Chris in the last year too doin' his bluegrass thing with Herb Peterson. Have you ever given The Desert Rose Band or Souther Hillman Furay a listen?

I have the Souther Hillman Furay band album. Haven't pulled it out in a while.
I liked Richie in Poco. That was as close to country I ever got. Saw the Paul Cotton version never Furay and Messina.
Hey Jim
Love Stephen Stills too! Talked for awhile with you at the Blues Saloon during the Mighty Orq gig. Not to get away from the subject of "other artists" but you said that Joe changed your life. I think that about sums it up for me too. Everyone I listen too now I have to compare to Joe and most are left sorely wanting!
I have pictures of the Orq and the band and you if you want I can email to you. You can contact me at Cooper Ford in MWC or get with Kim. Hopefully you remember my true identity!

Okay - that was frustrating - I was trying to do an edited triple quote - couldn't swing it......so I have a couple of messages......
J Dawg -
Yes, I think those guys must have been with him as, when I was reviewing some video just last night, I heard them doing that Joe Walsh tune, and thought to myself, "What's THAT about??"
He was more subtle about his politics, and no one reached for their herb, as we were in a semi-posh casino showroom.
and......................
Jim and John .....this is for both of you -
I LOVE POCO - I LOVE RICHIE FURAY and my cousin (who, coincidentally, I JUST told you about in an email about 1/2 hr. ago, Jim), also cut a record with Gram Parsons on which many of the Burrito Bros. sang back up.
Here's my favorite Burrito Bros. tune..............

And here's one of the more bizarre stories in rock'n'roll history..................
