Topic: My own little US Tour

Hi Everybody,
After Eva passed me the idea to start this topic so that people who want to know about my little trip out in the wild west can follow up.

In the first week we started of in San Diego. We spent 3 days over there and visited the San Diego Zoo,Sea World,Wild Animal Park and Old Town.
Sea World was great especially the Killer Whale show.Never saw those animals before so this was a great experience. Also pretty cool was feeding the dolphins at sea world. You could buy some fish and feed the dolpins and also pet them. One of the greatest experience so far.
After San Diego we went to Escondido and spent the night there.
On Friday we went to Borrego spring desert state park and had a nice hike in that park.
Not seen any big horn sheep over there, but the weather and park was great. Spent the night in a nice hotel and left early the next morning.
On saturday and Sunday we spent both days in Joshua Tree National Park.
Also had some nice hikes over there.Seen lot's of tiny lizards and also a big Chuckwalla.Who is rarely seen there. We spent both nights in 29 Palms (California).

Our second week (monday april 14)We had a long drive towards Cottonwood (Arizona) a nice little town at the old Route 66.A very little town since there was not much to do over there,we spent the night at the Wigwam motel.Very cool. Still warm weather but very windy almost 50miles/hour.
Next day we drove to Sedona, and Red rock State park. Also very nice places.Did another nice hikes (we are so sporty...:P )
Next day went to Petrified forest NP.A very amazing thing to see. The petrified wood looks very pretty.

Well that's it for now.Gonna pack our bags again and gonna travel to Willcox.
Hopefully find a hotel with wireless internet again. For those who are interessed in my pictures check my myspace or my website (link underneath my avatar).

Maybe next time Roy...
The US is a big country so we have to visit lot's of places.
Seen much of California and Arizona after this trip.So don't know where we'll be going next year. You might never know.
We are in Willcox right now and will visit Chiricahua NM and planning to do a long hike 4/5 hours. After that we will travel to Tuscon and visit some of the "wild west" as Tombestone (the wayet earp shootout at the O.K. Corral)and lot's more to see.Flying back on Friday from Phoenix-> Chicago-> Amsterdam.

Re: My own little US Tour

Okay Marianne, now this is just downright silly!  You must have driven within about 5 minutes of my house on your Southern California tour!  Jeez!

I vaguely remember that shortly after I joined the forum, you mentioned that you were going to be here on holiday.....but then I didn't see you talking about it, so, I thought my memory was failing me.......I should have asked you.

Some GREAT shots indeed.  I only saw about a dozen or so.  Don't know if there are others hiding.  Mostly I saw shots in my neck of the woods.  That is an EXCELLENT shot of the roadrunner.  Also, where did you find that body of water in Joshua Tree?  Had we just had some rain just before you shot that one, perhaps?  I've never seen anything in J.T. that looks like that.  Beautiful.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation.  So sorry to have missed you this time around.  Next time, you must remind me and we will "do lunch" (that's a Hollywood kind of phrase) - Tee Hee!

Travel safely dear and enjoy our beautiful country.  Glad you're having lovely weather.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: My own little US Tour

Well no Eva did not run into JJ wink
Thanks for looking at my pics.Made more than 300,but just put a little collection on my site.
That roadrunner was behind our hotel, making a nest in a tree.We saw it when we were pakking in our stuff in the car.
And that water was at a place called "Barker Dam" in JT. It's a place were the wildlife comes to drink.Did not seen any bighorns there but it's a little walk/hike in the park (also on the parkmap)
Next time I'll come by to say hello Libby.

This is a cool idea, I'm enjoying your travelogue Marianne. Maybe I'll do one when I'm over, though I won't be traveling nearly as much as you are. big_smile

Short and medium term memory loss, Libby? Tell me about it. roll

Marianne

Thanks for the pics

I particularly like the sunsets (these would go just great on the wall) and woweeee what contrast in the colours you are getting there - it must be a photographers dream smile

On a more serious note I hope that you are keeping the suncream handy as althogh you look like you tan really well, we wouldn't want you to burn now would we? (A nice high factor to block out those nasty rays as much as possible)

Enjoy the rest of it!

Vicky

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself cool)

Re: My own little US Tour

Don't worry,I've got lot's of suncream with me.

Re: My own little US Tour

Hi, guys.
Almost on my way home now.
Just 2,5 days to go. Spent the weekend - wednesday in the Tuscon area.
As i wrote down before we visited tombstone the weekend. Also visited the Old Tuscon (park) the wildlife museum. This morning went for a big 4 hour hike in "Saguaro NP".
Around 12'o clock it was getting to warm so we went downtown to visit some guitarshops.
the boyfriend couldn't resist to try some of the guitars and offcourse we ended up with one on the way home. He wanted a Les Paul, but the Gibsons were a bit above the budget so he got himself a nice Epiphone Les Paul standard  Honeyburst .
Tomorrow we're going shopping ( my turn now wink )
And thursday of to Phoenix and fly home on friday 9 o clock.

Re: My own little US Tour

Nice pix Marianne, now you're giving me the urge to do some traveling. That's a beautiful part of the country and this is the best time of year to see the desert. I have a friend who lives in Tombstone, I should get down there and visit Randy. Next time come back to San Francisco.
