Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Sure hope Gerber ain't this tough nx few games.  54 shots on Gerber, 4 goals;  Ya got to hand it to Sens though, they didn't give up.  Pens much better team just the same, as long as Sens have Marty takin Penalties.  Pens will get one of the nx 2 games in Ottawa.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Sid the Kid....... I envy you Pen fans as you get to see this guy play all the time, thats when you can really see how special a player somebody is or is going to be. I thought Hossa was a great late season pick-up for you guys(wasn't to happy about that one).

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Yeah Crosby's something special for sure. Then there's Malkin whom some here feel is better than Sid.  Different kind of players but both are top notch talent. We've been real blessed with some of the best over the years. Mario, Jagr, Ronny Francis, Sid, Malkin.
We gave up a lot for a rental player in Hossa. As good as he is I have my doubts that we can afford to sign him in the off season. Unless we have a deep playoff run maybe He'll sign here for less than he could get elsewhere. Doubt it though.
With all the incredible young superstars in the NHL now I can't believe the sport isn't more popular.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Hockey is way bigger than football in Alaska, centered around Anch & Fairbks; reason is UAA, UAF, various Juniors, and to lesser extent ECHL; strong HS & youth hockey orgs spin off.  Now you have a few NHL stars coming from Ak and many more playing in AHL, ECHL, and Juniors.

The state built outdoor rinks in every village back in 80's oil wealth days but they have since fell into disrepair.  They do seem to find the money to build indoor rinks though, alot of political support for it too.  Palin's,(current gov) kids played hockey and she has pushed the financial support.  I heard they now have twenty some indoor rinks around the burgh, that and youth hockey is where it all begins.

Way back before we moved to Ak, we lived outside Meadville and the youth hockey program there was huge.  I figure hockey will really grow in  those dozen counties that surround Pittsburgh (suburbs) over the years to come as a spin off from Pens.

Much as I hated seeing Armstrong & Christiansen traded, I see why they wanted Hossa for playoffs, man he's tough. He's sure snakebit in playoffs, how about last night's game; couldn't believe it.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

I guess snakebit is a good way of putting it. He doesn't have to score goals to be effective though. His presence is opening room for Crosby and the guy back checks like a beast. Never knew he was such a defensive player. I always thought of him as one dimensional goal scorer/sniper. Boy was I wrong.
Armstrong and Christanson were 2 of my favorite players so it was sad to see them go. Hopefully they can find some success in Atlanta.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Caps,Flyers game just starting...............heck with the yard work!! Anybody notice that 4 of the "original 6" are in the playoffs? It would be nice if it was Canadiens vs Red Wings STANLEY CUP FINALS!!  WOW these Capital fans are starving for a little success! Place rockin! Bruins look dead in the water, they can't beat Montreal this year. The refs sucked yesterday. First against Montreal then it was like they had to even it out. Boston better take 2 at home. I haven't been able to see the Western Conference games yet. More of a wide open style. HEY JOE, NORTH EAST NEEDS ITS BONAMASSA FIX!!!!

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Rough game last night man. Rangers lost in OT 4-3. N.J. scores on a puck that deflects off of Betts stick, twice on the power play, and in OT, a puck off of Stalls skate. So two garbage goals and the series is as you guys know 2 games to 1 N.Y.(I was hoping for a sweep). Great game, alot of scrums after the whistle. Good skating and hitting. Whats goinn on out there? The west?
Amen to that Bonamasa fix brother!

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

How about Sean Avery last night? He stood in front of Marty Broduer with his gloves swailing trying to distract the HOF goalie. What a crazy move???   Gary Bettman didn't find the humor in his move, threatened to give him a game mis conduct if he or anyone else tries that again.  Funny stuff.  I guess you have to see it to trulu appreciate it.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Boy the Sens came to play tonight. They look like a completely different team. Guess Alfredson gave them a hell of a boost. Pens better be able to match the intensity.  I think they can.........................fingers crossed

I was watching that game. I see they did amend the unsportsmanlike conduct rule:

I'm glad they did. I've grown up watching hockey and I've never seen that before. It was a clever move on Avery's part , but that ain't hockey.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Well they pulled it off. Crosby's goal 12 secs into the third, followed by where you been Jordan Staal 1 minute later broke the spirit of Ottawa. They tried to come back but knew deep down they were done.   Here's to breaking out the brooms on Wednesday night. Then a nice long rest waiting for the second round. Hopefully whatever team advances will play 7 and be banged up.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

Well it looks like the Senators are going to continue with the stigma of playoff failure. Here's a good one.........baseball in April is boring enough. I watched one of the best hockey games Bruins,Canadiens OT game Sunday night. The action, the hitting and the goal Boston needed..........I was buzzing after that. So then I put on RED SOX YANKEES zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! HUH? WHAT? It's morning?

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

My Pens are doing so great that I worry for my poor old jersey.  It seems to be getting worn a lot lately....Gonna have to order one of those sexy new ones they got now....

Well, the night I was born

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

I'll be switching between Caps & Bruins.  I luv watching Ovechkin but don't think the Caps are there yet; kinda like the Pens a year back.  I don't look for Caps to win the series, no matter how good that would be.

Bruins/ Habs is the game to watch today.  Canadians are really one of the better teams in NHL. If Boston could pull another one off; could change the series.

Re: NHL PLAYOFFS Power Rankings??

And the Sens bow out in 4 straight games. The sweep by my very young Penguins. Now looks like we're gonna take on the Rangers. The other team that scares me.  I guess if you want to win the championship you gotta beat the best. Look out, Pens are focused.
