Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

One thing, besides him being an incredible guitarist, you can say about Walter is he doesn't hold back on releases. He keeps releasing them like clockwork, and they're consistently great. In related news, Walter appears on Steve Fister's upcoming release "Deeper Than The Blues" with a guest spot on a cover of The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Out this week, and is highly recommended!

Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

We'll be seeing him for the first time this Saturday at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival.  I'm really looking forward to it.  After seeing the video of him at the Paradiso(Amsterdam), we decided if he ever came around here, we would go see him.

Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

I wanted to touch back on this thread to say I did see Walter Trout play at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival and he was great, just as I expected he would be.  And Roy, you're right, I did get the opportunity to meet him and have a pic taken after show.  He is a very nice guy.

Anyway,  I found this article about him that you might find interesting.

I enjoyed the entire article, but found this part quite interesting.

On his most recent CD "Full Circle," he plays a range of blues styles, and reunites with music friends from his past like Mayall, Coco Montoya, Bernard Allison, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Sardinas, Guitar Shorty, Finis Tasby, Junior Watson, James Harman, Deacon Jones and Jeff Healey.

About the CD, he says, "The idea for the album goes back to the spontaneity and jamming tradition among blues players. I started thinking about knowing all of these great musicians and ask myself, why don't I see who I can get into the studio and jam with. And then it kind of evolved into, yeah, let's jam but how about if we sit down and write a song to jam on. For all these people to come in, and be on my CD, it was very moving for me. They were saying, hey Walter, we like what your doing, we're here for you. Sometimes I put that CD on and just start crying."

I don't have this cd, but I just listened to samples of it and I like it a lot.

Susan, this is a great CD, a must have!  To hear Joe and Walter "trade" licks is really cool...

Music is good for the Soul...

Sounds good Steve. I wish all artists were as reliable in their touring schedule as Walter Trout! He always brings a good support act over with him too!

Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

The Outsider got a review of 9/10 in Classic Rock Magazine. That's pretty much unheard of!

I think he'll be my first gig of 2009, he plays Glasgow on 4th January!

Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

Dummy me had Amazon package Walter's new CD together with "Live from Nowhere in Particular" to get the free shipping so I'll have to wait another 6 weeks or so to get it.  Grrrrrr....

I last saw Walter in Las Vegas (January 2007). He and the Radicals put on a great show and I got to meet Walter afterward.  Next to Joe he's probably my favorite artist.  He and Joe share a lot of the same qualities - talented song writers, great vocals and axe work, and they're both genuinely nice people. His touring schedule is similar to Joe's as well (always on the road it seems) which is great for his fans.

Anyone who doesn't own the Full Circle CD I'd suggest putting it on your wish list. Not to say that any of Walter's other releases aren't worthy.

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: Walter Trout New Cd release (The outsider)

Bob (Tarus52) and I are going to Delaware to see Walter this Fri. evening where it looks like he will play for the Diamond State Blues Society, then head to Virginia for a show later that night. Good thing his voice is normally a touch gravely to begin with. I hope he has the new CD with him!! His new drummer was with one of the bands "my" band competed against in Memphis, prior to this gig. I'll tell Walter Joe gave him props today in case he doesn't know.    Cathy
