Topic: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

Crosby Loggins is going to be part of a new reality talent show featuring famous musicians kids called "Rock the Cradle" on MTV. Also features Joe Walsh's, Bobby Brown's, Olivia Newton John's kids. Kind of like American Idol with famous kids.

Debuts April 3rd...kind of surprised I haven't heard about this until today.

I just read a couple of articles on the web about this being a horrible idea.  This is one of them.

Personally, I don't care.  I'm want to check it out to see if talent really is in the DNA.  Plus, most of us already know how good Crosby Loggins is but I think it will be interesting to see how well he performs in competition and how good the kids of the other famous people are.   It should be interesting.  wink

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

I'm atypical when it comes to tv, so I'm not the best person to critique this...I don't watch American Idol and I would watch this, especially if the parent was someone in music I have followed.  Kenny Loggins photo was just in the paper for something...I always liked his music, so I think we have a like father like son thing...I'll definitely tune in...Good Luck Crosby!!

I was reading some stuff recently about Steve Winwood and his early musical connections with both parents involved in music. If Joe's dad didn't have lots of guitars around and a great music collection...I wonder...Young children are like sponges...mixed with some natural talent...voila!

Sorta' related, I've been reading more and more interesting things about brain research and the neuroscience of music...this one I thought was cool about creativity.

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

I got this e-mail this morning from Crosby Loggins.  I think it would be nice to show Crosby some support. smile

"Hey Everybody,

I've got some big news!!  Please take a moment to read this whole note, it's got some really important information in it...

As many of you already know, I was recently selected to participate in MTV's newest reality music competition, "Rock The Cradle".  The show airs LIVE NEXT THURSDAY, APRIL 3 @ 10PM (EST), and will feature the talented offspring of music industry stars facing off each week by performing live in front of a studio audience.

The show is VOTING BASED, and there is an ELIMINATION EVERY WEEK!

Needless to say, the stakes are higher than ever.  But we can win!!

I feel its worth saying that my decision to participate in this show was not an easy one.  I have spent 7 very hard working years in direct pursuit of my career, putting a tremendous amount of energy into stepping out from behind my father's shadow.  I take great pride in the fact that every aspect of my career, from my management to my band to my record deal, has developed organically and as a result of my own hard work.  But the fact remains that I am Kenny Loggins' son, and that's not ever going to change.

This show is a huge opportunity for me to fully embrace that reality and move past it into my own career.

SO LETS SPREAD THE WORD!!

Here are some ways we can work together to win:

    - WATCH MTV and VOTE NEXT THURSDAY, APR 3 at 10e/9c (online or by text message - stay tuned for voting details).

    - Stay informed!  Encourage others to go to <http://www.crosbyloggins.com> and JOIN MY MAILING LIST to receive more information and voting details.  (Even if you think you're already on the list, join it again.  We've updated some things and you won't receive multiple emails).

    - Visit my MYSPACE page <http://www.myspace.com/crosbyloggins> and paste the "Digital Stickers" into your own myspace pages to help spread the word.  Tell your friends to do the same!

    - Forward this LETTER on to your own mailing lists, and post it in your blogs, bulletins and personal web pages.

    - Tell everyone you know to VOTE next Thursday, and share these tools to help spread the word!

We can work together to bring real music to the forefront once again!  Lets take this thing by storm!

Thank you so much guys.

Very Sincerely,
Crosby Loggins

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

Just maybe MTV is trying to redeem themselves and get back to music, its entertainment and I'll be open minded about it...so in all due respect ReverendPaul, I perceive Crosby's e-mail as a serious career move he may have had mixed emotions about, the music business is tough and cruel...I plan on showing Crosby some love!

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

Well this is what it's gonna take for me to watch a reality TV show. Crosby has talent, we already know that, I'm sure he really did struggle with the idea to join in. Win, loose, or draw he's AOK in my book. Just for the record I think reality TV shows are the bottom feeders of network programming, with Idol leading the charge. They fall into the same category as wrestling and believing anything printed in a tabloid. The sad thing is people watch and read this crap in the millions, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!!!!!

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

I would be one. My wife another. I suppose you didn't watch Ted Mack's Amature Hour either. It's pop culture now. Entertainment for some including me. We DVR the shows and fast forward through the commercials and the hokey stuff.

I will watch Crosby too. Sounds interesting to me. When I cast my vote for him it will be the first time I have ever made that effort. I'll even encourage others too even if they don't watch. Kind of my way of supporting Joe and Crosby. Crosby will be the first contestant on a reality TV show I have known so it makes it even more interesting. Hope he tells people what he has been doing for the last several months. Give Joe a plug.

I got sucked into Idol a few years ago, because my wife and both my daughters love the show and commandeered the main TV. I actually enjoy the early rounds most...those are some of the funniest moments I've seen on TV.
But even if they're way outside my musical tastes, there are usually a couple of people with some level of talent.
Unfortunately (IMO), the show departs from a singing competition and becomes nothing more than a popularity contest as soon as the public starts voting.

I'll probably tune in to see what Rock the Cradle is all about. I'll cheer for Crosby, because he's got talent and he's a genuinely nice guy.

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

When Carmine introduced me to Crosby, He shook my hand and said, "I know about you, You're one of the survivors of the old days."  and we had a conversation.  I was shocked and pleased.  I wonder what tales were told big_smile  I liked him.

When I introduced him to MsTia at a later show, he was gracious and charming.

A talented and sincere young man.  He has my vote, but the show will not have my watch.   I break out watching that stuff.  Maybe this will be different like Angela says.

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

1.  Crosby Loggins is a very talented musician who deserves my attention
2.  He's a sweet, gracious, down-to-earth, funny guy who was REALLY nice to both me and  my hubby
3.  He's family, right?
4.  Although I find MUCH of what is on TV nowadays to be sorely lacking (in many respects), I have been known to tune in occasionally to SOME reality shows.
5.  Because of the aforementioned reasons 1-4, I WILL be watching and casting my vote.  smile

By the way, before posting, I scrolled back up to the top of the thread to refresh my memory.  I was surprised to see that the linked article came from....."REALITY TV MAGAZINE" - WHAT??  We need a whole magazine???  Jeeza Louisa!!!!

......then, I clicked on the link to see who else would be in the competion with Crosby.  On the right side of the page is an Index of other reality shows.......hmmmm.......it looked a little long to me - so, I started counting.  I HAD to stop counting at about 100 - "Nanny 911" was staring back at me, while, sadly, my mouse had just rolled over and died!  I had to perform CPR - I took my poor mousie off that nasty page and back to the safety of the forum and, I'm glad to report, it looks like she will make a full recovery.  WHEW!!!!

Hey!  I think there's a reality show in here somewhere.....you know, "Mouse In The House".....the opening episode telling the tale (no pun intended) of the virtuous mousie who spent her days lolling about on the friendly JB forum......only to naively stumble one day, onto to evil reality show page and have her innocence sullied AND the very LIFE sucked out of her by the NEVER-ENDING LIST OF SHOWS.......was it a plan - perpetrated by the malicious, malignant, malevolent mice from the other side of the island???!!!!  Thank goodness that Mighty Mouse's nephew, the paramedic, happened upon the scene and was able to breathe life back into the fair rodent..........tune in next week........

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

At least with Crosby on the show we know there will be some real talent.  I'll be watching, the first time I've watched MTV in quite a while.  I've never really got into the reality tv thing as a genre.  A lot of its popular appeal has seemed to me to be to "trainwreck voyeurism."

I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision on Crosby's part, but it is a way to get exposure outside of the normal channels of the corporate music scene.  And he is a heck of a nice and talented guy.  I hope the editors of the show let that come through.  If so, he'll be a winner no matter what.

Good luck, Crosby.  I'll be pulling for you.

Re: Crosby Loggins on new reality/talent show

I just ran into a dilemma over this as I just found out my old pal Eddie Money's daughter Jesse is in the mix too. I was on the Doobie Bros. site and Tom Johnstons daughter Lara is a contestant too, the whole line up is there at doobiebros.net . I know Mark Russo who's played sax in the Doobs for about ten years now. When I first met Crosby I asked if he knew Mark from the days when he played with his dad. Crosby lit up like a xmas tree and said Mark was like a second father to him. I wonder how Mark is going to weigh in on all this? I might have to go Swiss on this whole thing and go neutral. Maybe I'll just watch the performances and leave it up to the talent.
