Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

Right?  So tonight I'll go see Mark "Muddy Harp" Hodson and see if I can recruit a guitarist.  The Blues All Stars decided I could die of neglect.  I guess I pissed off somebody else.  I'm a mess about this.  I never give up though.

Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

Yippee Millster, just a short hop!

The never ending saga continues:  I'm standing outside the local bucket of blood with pimps & panhandlers, bluesmen and other streetwalkers, derelicts and freaks talking to a saxman I know.  He's a good ol' boy from Baton Rouge (say it right, butthead)  and I'm grumbling about my dilemma.

He keeps looking at me with his one good eye and his beret pushed back and I stopped in the middle of a sentence...WHAT?

Do you remember the time we did all those Albert King tunes at the Bank Club and I was playing guitar and we shared the vocals?  he asks me.  Did you forget?

Let me run inside and get you a stool to get on.  You can plant a foot in my butt.  says I.

So we made a deal right on the spot and I felt so good I walked over and handed a wino some change, before I went home..

As in give him a hand, Ladies and Gentlemen?  Oh That...........yes there's that.

Pete you're righter any ragamuffin orta be!  EGO, I have my own issues there, but it's like this.  If you don't know what the **** you're doing, How you gwine ter tell me what to play.

I don't have to (or want to) be the frontman all the time.  But Respect.  Grow some pubes.  Learn some theory.  Study the masters.  Learn the tune.  Practise.  I really don't have a problem with someone not knowing something...it's that attitude.  Take it home and practice that look in the mirror.  It's just tiresome to me.

This guy I'm hooking up with is a good musician.  We had a good rapport.  Stay tuned.

Much Love
Jeff

Pete:
God has a plan.  The cosmos is aligning.  I now have a Guitar player/singer who will front with me.  (see earlier post)  A keyboard player who can sing back up and my deaf drummer is back in pocket.

We have a setlist and we get together Monday to assign vocals and keys and arrangements.  I have HOPE.

Standing on the verge of getting it on brother getting it on!  People, Whatcha doing?

Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

Its frustrating indeed, I got together with a local drummer at a open mic who inturn introduced me to a blues guitarist / singer we had a bassist etc all was going well..
Keyboard player said she was gonna come down we thought we had it all wrapped up (me Guitarist and drummer get on well). First the Keyboardist doesnt turn up 3x then the Bassist decides he doesnt want to play blues and wants more heavy rock because blues isnt commerical enough (what happened to doing something for the love of doing it????)

So we are back down to the drummer me and the other guitarist, but I think its going quite well still. The other guitarist said he'd hold it down with some acoustic and I can have some freedom on the fretboard (which has helped me improve 10x quicker then sitting at home practising scales which I still do anyhow :x) He's easily the better guitarist and lead player the fact hes let me have some freedom to learn (especially lead cuz I mainly focus on rhythm) in a band environment is super cool.

It just seems part of trying to be in a band, being let down constantly by peoples kinda gets annoying. And like you basically said BJJ when you filter out all the egos / pricks ur left with next to nothing who isn't already in a band or has the time to be in one...

Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

I have played the guitar since i was 8 years old (since 2002) and got my first electric guitar when i was 8-9.
That was a squier bullet strat wich I still use at home, mostly because I want a real fender stratocaster and my squier is the closest to one that I can get. Now I got my eastone "one of a kind" Gibson copy.
I played my first "real" gig when i was about 10 years old, with a band that Im still playing in called "The vintage" ( http://www.thevintage.se/html/vintageband_eng.htm ). That was just a small gig and this year we're going to holland, finland and france! smile

Anyway I love most music from the 50's to the 70's (of course there are some exceptions).

Guess that's it!

Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

So we got together last night and went over some stuff.  I don't think he was too impressed with my playing because I realize now I was coming down with something last night.  At least I wasn't very satisfied with it.  Am sick today at home.  But he was impressed with all the prep I had done, making setlists and CDs and so on.  And He left very encouraged that we were gonna have fun, sound good and get paid.  I have to shed on some stuff I have not played in months.

Blues From the Bottoms blew the doors off of my garage/studio last night.  OOOWAH!

It is such a pleasure to work with pros.  Real Blues,  some growly stuff, some delta stuff, some Chicago & Texas shuffles & some hard rocking, butt kicking, in your face, I dare you to sit there blues.  No hot dogging except on solos.  My deaf drummer and I (blind bassman) were like one heartbeat.

We are ready to gig.  Thursday, Friday & Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.  In the Park On the Riverside, in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  www.fishstock.com  Ken & Susan come up and see us!

Sean (#2 son) will be filming that whole festival.  I will have DVDs and maybe YouTube.  It's not show off stuff.  It's tight and in pocket...in the groove.  I guess that IS showoff, huh?

all lathered up here.
Roy stop fondling yourself and play your guitar.  Do you want a DVD?  Promise not to use it as a scarecrow?  target practice?  I know you need guidance. big_smile  Let the Funky Dr heal ya.

COME OUT evil spirits!  All in fun my northern bro.  (I probably should not encourage you, except to play your guitar, I mean)  and the forum holds their breath...Look for the good and praise it!

Re: Jeff Jones is a musician

I'm a guitar player who also sings.

Keep in mind I'm saying I'm not a musician. I consider musicians to be able to play more than one instrument...if not you're a  ______ player. Or you could be musician if you write music. That of which I am trying to do. Also keep in mind I'm not a singer who plays guitar. That is also different.

smile wink smile

I've been playing guitar since 1994 and singing since 2001.
Heard of JB in 2002, started listening to JB in 2004.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

You're cool Nic.  I appreciate the distinction.  I am a bassman who sings.  It is my calling for 40+ years.

I am a theory nut.  I compose on the piano, because my guitar skills are suspect.  Piano and singing was my first (1975) attempt at sight reading.

I also play enough drums to irritate drummers who can't count to 4 let alone 5, 7, or 12.

I'm just stoked that BFTB finally came together for this festival.
