Topic: cold distance (lance lopez)

This was a hard rock(not blues rock) band lance lopez apparently did after wall of soul.  I just stumbled on to the myspace.  They released one album independently.  does anyone have this?  anyone?  if so please contact me immediately.  according to the bio they once opened for the one and only joe bonamassa.  doesn't really seem like a good fit, but what the hell two of the most badass guitar players on earth.

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

Yep, that is true. We were the promoters of that show. I think Cold Distance actually put out an EP, and it was self produced/published. So at this time it would be technically out of print.

The band was short lived due to a myriad of problems and personality conflicts.

Cold Distance was a little like the "Good Old Blues Brothers Boys".........at the end of the night instead of getting paid they'd owe the club about $400 for their tab.  If you notice on their MySpace page they list influences as Led Zep, Black Sabbath, drugs, and alcohol........

The last two influences probably having much to do with the demise of the band and the current state of Lance's performing career. A super talented guy that has been "distracted", so to speak.

They did have some potential, and put out some rockin' stuff. A bit harder, as you say, but nothing along the lines of what I'd call "hard rock".

Yep Kevin, Phil just about summed up everything you need to know about Lance's Cold Distance project. I do have a boot or 2 laying around I'll dig up for you.   Lance did in fact open for Joe, I think if my memory serves me correct it was a new years eve show.   I will find the bootleg show I have and get it off to you.  Never did get the ep they relesed.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

I was at that show. Recorded Joe's set but not Lance's. I forgot about that recording. Lots of crowd noise. Rowdy crowd for sure. I believe I was one of the rowdys that night. Nobody was as rowdy as Lance and his gang though. Lance's set would of driven most people out of the room it was so loud. Not a good loud either. Very dissapointing show from him. Joe was smoking as usual.

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

man i am intrigued.  sounds like they were too messed up to put on good shows.  still like what i hear on the myspace.  definitely not as impressive as typical lance aka a man who just may be the best there is, but i really dig  this sort of music.  and i love lance lopez so it is just fascinating to me he made an album of this stuff.  nothing to complicated just riff riff riff.  thats that sabbath influence, being able to have a nice riff that is also simple.  unlike a lot of punk, where you have a simple riff that sucks.  i have to tell you all i have a library of music where the influences would be listed as sabbath zeppelin and drugs.  what can i tell you i love it.

i got those eddie hazel albums made up for you jeff now its just a matter of shipping em.

thanks for the info all.

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

you can speculate all you want, but does anyone really know why he was in jail.  i guess the general assumption is drug related crime like posession or something?  outside of that i'm really not sure i understand the six feet under and what a waste remark, so is that what it was getting at.  im not tryingt o be hostile im just curious.  my point is i don't think you should speculate on something like that, unless you have a good reason to believe what you do.  i mean i don't know how you can call the guy a waste he is still young and pretty much everything he has been involved with has been great.

I get you Suhl....your probably right....I had a lengthy discussion with a man that was involved with the SRV gig in Dallas this year....he told me he was Lances manager for awhile, he seemed credible, but you never know...anyhow the topic on Lances lifestyle had the guy worried....then I've looked on you tube and see video of him passed out like some derelict....if I were Lance, I would have got a hold of the person that put that crap on there...hey, I wish Lance the best...the guy blows me away...I certainly cant bad mouth the guy, I've been down a very rocky road in the past...so I hope that new album smokes like the rest!

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

As far as why he was locked up, he violated his probation when he moved to NY. Now why he was on probation, no idea.  I have heard LL has had his problems with drugs, whatever, but also heard those days are long behind him.
Hey Dave, where's this youtube of him passed out? Thats a new one to me.

Re: cold distance (lance lopez)

Don't think there is any question that Lance is a talented guy. I also don't think there is any dispute that fans recognize his talent and wish him the best while dealing with his demons/addictions.

His issues have clearly stunted his career somewhat. Jail for example, that has to be a setback on any job.

Along the way Lance has upset some people; the reasons are truly only known to them. Those people are probably the ones that posted the YouTube video of Lance in unflattering situations.

Either way, the only things I speak of with Lance I have specific first hand knowledge of. No rumor passing here.

We also wish him the best and look forward to some good things coming from him in the future. Everyone hits a few bumps along the way.
