Topic: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

Well, my first Joe gig has been and gone and what a great night it was, spoilt only by a few morons shouting out during the quieter moments of the set. Don't these people realise they are in the presence of a musical genius. Why bother going if you don't have the intelligence to appreciate what's in front of you??

Anyway, on a very stormy night weather wise, Joe certainly whipped up a storm inside the Dome. Firing up with Bridge To Better Days and Walk In The Shadows you could hear jaws dropping from every conceivable angle! A staggering performance of So Many Roads led into the, much anticipated by me, highlight of the night, the truly wondrous Mountain Time. I can honestly say this was as close to tears as I've ever been at a gig - stunning.

The rest of the set flew by but special mentions for Ballpeen Hammer and Woke Up Dreaming - amazing playing, and all too soon it was over.

We hung around afterwards hoping that the band might re-appear until we were marched out by security. Undeterred we wandered around the back and found Joe's bus where I asked the driver if there was any chance of getting Joe to sign my jacket. HE DID!!!!

I think that it's extremely unlikely that Morecambe will ever see Joe again, he'll play bigger and better venues next time, but it was an honour to be there last night. Thank you Joe, Carmine, Rick and Bogie.

That sounds like a great night! smile
Very cool that you got your jacket signed cool ... and indeed - you might be right about the bigger venues. Joe is becoming an UK-Rockstar at the moment! smile

I´m sure there are many, many shows to come for you in the future ... once you start going to the shows there is no way of stopping the addiction wink

Glad it was all you expected Sharant. We all understand the day after syndrome. "I want more". The wait is killer and in fact waiting for tour dates to be announced is even harder!!! Thank goodness for the forum. Lot's of sharing here, so fill yourself with videos and join us in the "waiting room"...Cathy

Re: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

Hey Sharant

Was a great night.
Except for the weather. Got absolutely drenched but Joe and the capacity crowd thawed me out.
The highlight for me was Mountain Time, had me in tears. Just can not find the words to describe that version, as good or better than anything I have ever heard or seen before.
The crowd were fine around me at the back right.
All my 5 friends who were Bonamassavirgins were spellbound, The highlights of the evening were just looking at there expressions during Mountain Time and the acoustic set.

What about Joe diving into the audience at the end

Thank you Joe, Carmine, Rick and Bogie.

If I'm alive when I'm 99 I'm still gonna be saying, "Remember 4th May 2009 when we saw Joe at the RAH... what a night that was!"

Patsy

I just saw him sort leap feet first into the audience straight after his last note.
He seemed excited, going along the front rows shaking hands

Regards Ian

Re: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

Patty

I was at the front.
There was a barrier about three feet from the edge of the stage keeping the crowd away sad
Joe actually referred to it and appologised it was there. Maybe they get a more unsavoury crowd sometimes.........ha.....maybe the morons referred to elsewhere were local and well known wink

At the end of the set, Joe jumped down from the stage into the gap between stage and barrier and ran along shaking hands of the crowd.

Hey Ian & Ges,

Thanks for answering.  HOW EXCITING IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I first read it, I pictured Joe diving out into the crowd and then I thought, hope they were ready to catch him...lol...that's really kind & sweet of him to do that.  He is the best, luv him just the way he is.  Glad you guys had a great time.                   pattyluvsjoe

Thanks for all the replies guys, it really was a great night. My wife who has has been on a crash course of Joe Bonamassa for the past month or so thought it was great too and said she's definitely up for seeing him again! I suspect next time will be at somewhere like the Manchester Apollo.

Mountain Time - it's just magical isn't it. How one man playing a guitar can produce such emotion from his audience is just amazing.

In fact I'm off now to watch it on the Rock Palast DVD

Bye for now!!!!

Re: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

Hi Sharant.
Unexpectedly My husband and I were at the Morecambe gig last night(but that's another story) and yes there were a couple of morons there to say the least. Joe had just started playing Sloe Gin and there were a couple of 'women' standing right by me who were shouting "Joe Bonamassa" and "I love you" and other things at the top of their voices. I asked the one next to me to please be quiet but it didn't work. I could see Carmine looking at them. I eventually said "F****** shut up". I had to walk away. I feared I might punch her if I stayed. It spoilt things a bit. It takes a lot to get me riled as anyone who knows me will testify but they took the biscuit.
They showed a complete lack of respect for the band and the audience. They were a real embarrassment. Thankfully their type are not representative of Joe's fans.
Joe,Carmine,Bogey and Rick are the nicest guys you could wish to meet and yes it was another great show. Thanks a million guys.
Well I'm glad I got that off my chest!! That's my rant for the week!!

Tripsy

PS Nice to meet you Ges and Julie and the boys and the guys from Hoylake and Sandy Lane, I'm afraid I can't remember all your names so I won't try

Hi Tripsy

Nice to meet you guys too.
Sort of made the gig even better having met someone else from the forum there who REALLY appreciated the music and the band as much as we did. Michael L there as well of course..
Sorry I called your OH by the wrong name when we said "terrar" (Julie told me later - Doh) but quality memory was never my strong point wink

Take care all you guys from the forum who we met at the gigs. 'Till next time smile

Re: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

It's a shame that there always seems to be one or two people at every gig who are too drunk to realise that they're spoiling things for everyone else. Sign of the times perhaps???

never give up, never slow down
never grow old, never ever die young

Re: Joe B - Morecambe Dome 29.02.08

Hi Sharant,

My wife and youngest son came down from Kendal with me for the gig and we saw you get your jacket signed at the bus - you looked a happy chappy, I must say. We were up next and Joe signed my CD and was happy to pose with my son for a picture. Nice guy, nice for him to spare the time ... oh yes, and the gig was great, can't wait for Manchester in November
