Topic: What's your amp history?

500 pounds or about $1000 usd

Amps I like for that much new/used
used circa 94 Peavey Classic 30 or 50 and while you are at it try to find a Val-Verb
vintage silver face Bassman or bandmaster
vintage marshall JCM 800 combo

anyway thats my 2 cents...
Thanks
Joe Bonamassa

Joe's post in another thread inspired me to make a list of chronologically owned amps starting with my first amp ever.

1. 1993 Peavey bandit 158 (15watt w 8" speaker)
2. 1995 Peavey Classic (tweed) 100 watt head w/vintage Fender Bassman 2x12 cab. The cab was painted black and had a silver face. I stripped the black paint to show the blonde underneath. It had one original bassman speaker in it - sold & replaced with hughes & Kettner American Classic 12"

3. 1996 Peavey Classic 100 head w/ peavey 5150 4x12 cabinet
4. 1997 5150 Half Stack (head & cab)
5. 1997 (used 80's) Marshall JCM 800 2x12 combo amp
6. 2000 (90's) Rivera Knucklehead 100 watt head w/5150 4x12 cabinet
7. 2002 (90's) Rivera R55-12 (12" 55watt combo) w/5150 4x12 cabinet
8. 2003 (90's) Rivera R55-12 (12" 55watt combo) w/Marshall 1960A 4x12 cabinet

#8 is current amp

Re: What's your amp history?

This looks like a fun exercise, lets see:

1994 - Crate GTX (i think) 2x10 combo
1995 - ART Attack series 1x12 (in the plastic case... weight about 20 lbs!)
1995 - Marshall Valvestate 2x12 w/ chorus
1996 - Mesa Triaxis, Mesa 2.90, digitech something-er-other efx, crate 4x12
1999ish - Mesa Dual Recto head (for about 1 week)
1999 - LIne 6 Flextone 1 head, still ... crate 4x12
1999 - Line 6 Flextone 2 2x12 combo
2001 - Nau Engineering 3 channel head, Carvin 2x12
2002 - Mesa Triaxis, Mosvalve 942, Rocktron Intellifex, Mesa vertical 2x12
2005 - Nau Engineering Custom 1x12 Combo, Mesa vertical 2x12
2007 - sold Mesa cab for 68 Traynor Bassmaster and Marshall bluesbreaker cab.
2008 - still wandering amp-wise... my tone is functional but not inspiring.

So there it is.

Re: What's your amp history?

nice topic smile

Couldn't remember the years(too many have come and gone tongue )

WEM 15 tube amp
Marshall 40W MasterLead 1x12 combo(tranny amp)
Marshall JCM 900 2x12 100W combo(great amp, but good clean tone were hard work)

Current:
Fender HotRod Deluxe 1x12 40W tube
Mesa Rect-o-verb 1x12 50w tube(man this thing punches above its weight.... it competes on stage with a 100w Marshall JvM easily)

I tend to hang on to 'em for a long time tongue

Wrestling witht he idea of a Hughes and Kettner triamp head and 2x12 cab but loving the Boogie too much right now tongue

Re: What's your amp history?

Not that many for as long as I've been playing, but to the best of my recollection:

1974 -- 1972 100W Marshall Super Lead stack, more tone than I could appreciate at the time
1975 -- 1965 Bassman head, 1  4x12 Marshall cab (couldn't keep output xformers in the Super Lead)
1977 -- 1977 Peaveay Mace, 4x12 Marshall cab
1982 -- Peavey Renown (only SS amp I ever owned, used it with a nasty effect processor--dark days)
1996 -- 1980s ish Fender Concert, trading it away was worst mistake ever
1999 -- mid 90s Hot Rod Deville, 4x10
2007 -- Orange Tiny Terror w/ 1x12 cab (to run with the DeVille)

Blessings,
Larry

Re: What's your amp history?

I've only been playing about three years, so I started out with the Roland Cube 15, and moved my up when my parents bought me a Fender FM 212R for my 21st birthday. Absolutely love it.

Re: What's your amp history?

OK, have to jump in on this one.
chronological order as best as I can remember starting in 1980 I think.
-Kustom 1x12 combo solid state...good loud little amp.
-crate 8" solid state (POS) still have it in the garage for testing
-Marshall valvestate 2x12 (first year of the model) not bad
-fender ultrachorus (120 watt, solid state, chorus, pretty nice amp)
-rivera suprema55 1x12 tube closed back, killer amp (basically an r55 with a vintage 30, more gain, and closed back.NBP- If you like the r55, I think you'll love this one)
-tech21 trademark 10 (great little practice amp, still have it)
-vox adt15 (good little practice amp with effects...sold it)
-VHT CL100 with Bogner 2x12 big cab (loved it, heavy sounding hard rock/metal amp)...still think about this one.
-Rivera knucklehead reverb 100 (big sounding, tons of bass, many options, midi switch) Had the VHT and Rivera going thru the bogner 2X12 and switched between, trying to figure out which I liked best...couldn't decide. They were both great. If I were a touring hard rock/metal player, I would probably choose the Rivera, just for the midi switch.
-Splawn pro rod (loud, modified marshall based, metal amp...don't know what I was thinking, but sounds good for what it is)

Budda superdrive 30 1x12 loved it.
Budda superdrive 30 2x12 loved it.
Budda superdrive 45 1x12 bought it for same sound, but more umpphh...it delivers. I also have a earcandy buzzbomb 2x12, but don't need it much. This is my current amp, and always get compliments on the sound. Cuts like a knife, cleans up nice, dirty as you want to be if needed.
-fuchs lucky 7

Budda is how I know about Joe, he was on the front page of their website and was playing in a Newport RI club while I was on vacation a couple years ago. I figured, lets check him out...the rest is bonamaniac history.

Re: What's your amp history?

Some Fender 10 watter...1st amp.
A Crate solid state POS like a GX 20? something weird like that
A Johnson Millenium 2X12 J150
Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100

pretty happy with the modded dsl for now

Re: What's your amp history?

Oh Boy, here's a bassman's dateline:

LOTS of amps.

No Amps at all.

Lots of amps again.

My favorite?  Kustom Groove amp with 1 15" Eminence and a horn
and when I want to play outside, (I like Festivals) I put the extended cab with 2 15" and a horn, on the other side of the stage, of course lol 700 to 1000 watts depending on how I rig in the speakers.

It's the first thing with 15s that I played with since Acoustic days that doesn't boom.  Before that I was 4 to 8 10 inchers.  Nice and clean!

Hope that doesn't spoil the guitar players party.

Re: What's your amp history?

Started with a little 10w Kustom Bass amp (was real loud for 10w) playing guitar through it...
Got a Marshall MG30dfx thought it sounded great but I think my ears matured after 12 month I couldnt stand to play with it, played through a proper 50ish bassman at a open mic loved the cleans on it so I went and got a 90's Blues deluxe which is fantastic fits my playing perfect :x

Re: What's your amp history?

Hi all, well here we go, to the best of my recollection.
Fender Performer 1000 - Awesome amp, great for rock still use it to this day.
Fender 71 Silverface Bassman Head w/ 2/12 Sovtek cab
Hot Rod Deluxe
Fender Roc Pro 1000 - this amp is what the Performer turned into, again great sleeper amp
Fender 67 Blackface Bassman Head
Marshall 1960A w/ G12T75's
Peavey 5150 combo
Rivera S120 2-12 combo - In a true Blues Brother like moment I traded a car for this amp:)
Blankenship Amplification Fat Boy
Fender Blues Junior - I'm on my second, first got stolen
Peavey Classic 50 2-12 combo
Rivera S120 head

I can't really say what rigs were used when because I have used them all depending on what I felt that particular moment.  I will say though that the Hot Rod Deluxe had seen alot of use but I recently sold it.  I absolutely Luvv the Blues Junior and that is my main amp right now for most small gigs.  The Blankenship is the loudest little amp on the planet.  If you put it on a hard floor, turn it up, and smack a low E it will literally walk away from you.  Also I cant use open back combos outside, it just doesn't work for me.  It's cool though cause thats when the heads and my Marshall get some use.  Recently I was inspired by Mr. Bonamassa and have been using a two amp setup, one dirty one clean and I am really enjoying that.  I do look forward to the day that I can run two 4-12 cabs with 4 100 watt heads on top and not get hauled off to jail for killing eveybody in the bar that night. wink
Take care guys.
Mike

Re: What's your amp history?

These posts about amp history really got me thinking...

OK prepare to weep...

1. Traynor YGM3 (15th Birthday present)
2. 1965 Vox Coppertop AC30 (since sold..grief...sob!)
3. 1959 'Blacktop' 2-input Beige tolex Vox AC30
(since sold - I know...I know... super rare - worth gazillions now!)
4. 1967 Marshall plexi 100w superlead (Yes you guessed it... the EVH period amp!)
5. 1960 Vox AC10 Beige Tolex (this is too painful...)
6. 1963 15w 'Bird' Amplifier (Rare UK amp... still owned)
7. Roland Jazz Chorus 120 & 60 (My 80's funk band period- oh dear- never mind)
8. Marshall JMP-1 midi Rack system with 80+80 Valvestate & 2 1x12 stereo cabs    (my late 80's-90's rack system period...)
9. 1969 Marshall 100w red tolex Superlead Plexi & matching 1970 4x12
(My back to basics 'proper' rock period- still ongoing)
10. 1995 Marshall Bluesbreaker combo re-issue with KT-66 tubes & vintage greenbacks.
11. Matamp 2 watt 6V6 tube practice amp with 1950's Celestion 8" Alnico speaker
11. 1972 Marshall 2x12 cab with 1980's Celestion G-65's
12. Ceriatone Overtone D*mble Overdrive Special Cl*ne (On order- can't afford a Fuchs or Two Rock like Joe - this is the next best thing hopefully...)

Along with the two 1963 Strats I used to own- I have much reason to regret selling some of those vintage & rare amps- of course at the time they were just 'old'- I'm now off to cry quietly into my Earl Grey tea...

Cheers all! Mitch.

This don't look like no express way to me...

Re: What's your amp history?

Nice list Joe, almost a bio at the same time!!!

My List:

1974 Some horrid VT Head and a homemade 4X12 cab
1978 Trebly as s*&t Yamaha solid state 50-112
early 80's Homemade Mesa type (well, not really close at all but the guy who built it thought so!!!)
1985?? acoustic Model - 164, sounded more like a Mesa than the supposed copy mentioned above, a heavy little mother with weird controls and an old Electrovoice speaker)
several years of ampless Digitech RP 300 headphone living then got a Line 6 Flextone II Plus with the extension Cab.
Peavey Delta Blues
Traynor YCWR20

only amps left now are that old acoustic (needs some work) the Peavey and the sattelite cab from the Line 6 setup ( I should sell that tho coz as we all know, the speaker sux)

You Can Do Anything You Want To Do
