I'm sure Joe will be playing around with it...I wonder what it cost him?...oh by the way...tommorrow morning at 6:30 am PST, Cinemax will be showing the Monterey Pop Festival...if you have never seen Ravi Shankar play that sitar, dont miss it!...and wire your jaw shut!

Not a big fan of the sound or the type of music normally played with a Sitar. When I hear it thrown in on a rock song, it reminds me of bad psychedelic 60s music, or old TV shows when they would portray hippies sitting around a hookah!
Remember when Spock became a hippie? I'm pretty sure a sitar was playing in that scene.

When Ravi Shankar was in training to learn the Sitar the first 12-years he practiced the art of holding it.   Nothing more.

I've got some Ravi Shankar CD's which are pretty amazing. The opening part of the Concert For Goerge with Ravi's daughter is mindblowing. The standard of musicianship has to be admired. I know it's not to everyone's taste but we can all learn a little if we open our ears and minds a lot.

Last July 29th, the day after we attended the Crossroads Festival in Chicago, we we went to a concert at the stunningly beautiful Jay Pritzker Pavilion which is located in Millenium Park downtown Chicago. It was total happenstance. We were just checking out Millenium Park and noticed the free concert they had scheduled that night so we decided to check it out. It was a part of a "world music" series they had. The main artist was Flamenco guitar virtuoso Gerardo Núñez and he was accompanied by a few others including a sitar player named Nishat Khan. Now, I had never heard of either of these guys at the time, but these guys were so incredibly good - and I was especially impressed by Khan's extraordinary sitar playing - that they could have easily fit right in at the Crossroads Festival.

As it turns out, Khan did indeed play at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas 2004.
