Topic: VEGAS BABY!!

Vegas was R O C K I N'!!! Sold out show at the Railhead. People outside with no tickets trying to get some, even some scalping going on.

Great show; loved the new arrangements. "Don't Burn Down That Bridge" has a new sound that was completely fresh and unexpected.

Highlights of the day was lunch with Joe/Bogie at the House of Blues - a fan from Phoenix recognized Joe and asked for a photo. Many more were recognizing him and pointing as we left. Good news indeed!

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Yeah, sorry Iwas a no show.  I had no advance ticket Phil, so apologies to you & Jim especially.  Joe & Robben was exciting....I was especially looking forward to going, but it was looking to be a real mess around town to me.
Scalping, hmmm interesting.  Actually that's what I was most afraid of!!! How much purported (Email me offline)?

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Not sure what top dollar was but I had an extra for a distraught fan finding out it was sold out. That one went for a round of drinks. The first round of many that night. Really liked the venue good sound with all seats very intimate and upclose.

Just got paid was changed up a bit. Shortened which left time for three encores. One of these days keeps getting better live. The Don't Burn Down that Bridge rearangment is great.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Just got back into Chicago on the red-eye. Vegas Baby indeed! big_smile

That show was one of the best I've seen Joe do. The HOB show last November probably ranks higher but only because of JD Miller. The fans were totally off the hook. I was sitting in front of the Railhead playing video poker, figuring I'd get in line once will-call opened but nooooo. People started linng up 2 hours before the doors opened, so of course I jumped in cuz no way I'm not up front for this one. smile

We got the second row 6 ft from Joe. I'm still in seventh heaven. I loved the new song as already mentioned. I'll also be very controversial here and state that although I always love Bogie's solo I'm glad it got cut. More songs please if time is a factor. The encores were fabulous. I've not seen Joe do One of These Days live yet. What a treat to see the slide guitar come out!

I have to say how much I have enjoyed watching how Joe has stepped up his entertainment game over the years. I remember when I first saw him in 2001 and he was this guitarist playing in a power trio, a remarkable guitarist which got our attention but not really standing out as a personality. Now...whew. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand and you can't take your eyes off him. I had so much fun. That's what I love about going to a Joe show and why I go to as many as I can.

Anyway, enough of my sleep deprived rambling. Joe is on his way to India and I'm looking forward to hearing about that!

I'm just saying.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Nancy, Sorry we missed you. We came about 30 minutes before show time and considered ourselves lucky to find a seat. Did stand most of the night though. I was the only guy hassled about video taping in the whole place go figure. Had just got a new camera and experimenting. Got that straightend out but my arm got tired holding the dam thing.

You are so right about watching the evolution of his onstage persona. My wife hadn't seen the new band and was very impressed and starting to get this obsession we all have.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

I'm excited just reading these posts! Joe's star does indeed continue to burn brighter! Because he's basically a shy guy, it shows he's gaining confidence. Nothing but good. None of you have mentioned how you did in Vegas..Winners? Or have you taken a 2nd job? lol Cathy

Loooooser. Just didn't bet the farm.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

So glad you all had such a good time.  I'm so hoping he's still playing 'Don't Burn Down That Bridge' when I see him in Jacksonville.  That is such a great song.  Like Cathy, I can hear the excitement in everyone's posts.  Just three more months for me and counting the days....

We lost but not as much as we had budgeted to blow. Fortunately we had a big winning session during the last couple of hours before we had to leave for the airport and so took home a large chunk of the money we had dropped the previous three days.

We had so much fun this trip. Friday night we saw our first show, Robin Trower. I enjoyed the show but was not impressed with his band or his entertainment chops. He pretty much played one song after another straight ahead no frills. His singer was phoning it in (we noticed he was reading the lyrics off a cheat sheet the whole time). However, hearing Trower do Bridge of Sighs was worth the price of admission (which was 3x what we paid to see Joe).

We stayed a Boulder Station and were really impressed with the place. It had everything we needed as far as amenities and the casino had plenty of space and the type of video poker we like to play. And the price was definitely right. The Railhead is a great intimate venue. There's not a bad seat in the place and the acoustics were perfect.

On Sunday we met some Chicago friends who had moved to Henderson several years ago. We went to a new resort that recently opened out past Summerlin called Red Rock and had dinner and watched the Superbowl. What a game! We sat in this beautiful circular bar with big screen TVs all around the room and cheered as the Giants dismantled the Pats. Between screaming my head off during Joe's show and then screaming during the game I was hoarse by Sunday night. smile

Our last minute winning streak put the cherry on top of a great trip. I'm back home today all aglow and have the rest of the week to recover before I go back to work next week. Sometimes life is sweet. smile

I'm just saying.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

This is a combined report from Anne, Ann and Lee - just back from Las Vegas.  Nancy, we were right in front of you in line waiting.

Are we crazy?  Yeah.  Some people went to LV just to see some game on Sunday this weekend.  Heard on the news that more people watched the Superbowl from Las Vegas than at the stadium in Arizona.

Our trip to Vegas was specifically to see Joe.  Standing in line for general admission seating at the Railhead in Boulder Station, we met folks who had driven up from Yuma, Arizona (four hours), Houston, Chicago, some flew in from Ohio, and met a couple  from Wyoming.  We were in good company.  Didn't find anyone who came as far as we did... Maryland... but there probably were others!  Standing in line for the 250 (I think) seats, there were some first-timers - all of us said, "You just wait..."

While waiting, we could hear Joe warming up (about 6 pm).  My husband Lee boldly walked through a kitchen and found himself standing in the Railhead, watching Joe from the side of the stage.  We took turns just standing there watching and listening in awe.

Boulder Station is a HUGE casino about 20 minutes outside of downtown Las Vegas.  The manager of the Railhead said he was proud to bring blues artists to the club every Thursday night with no cover charge.  Evidently Joe put his time in playing free on Thursday nights.  The manager was thrilled that Joe has moved up to be a headliner at the Railhead.  Mr. Manager, here's an idea:  find a different hall at one of the many Station Casinos, one that seats 1,000 or so, double or triple the price of tickets, and you can earn a little more money on this safe bet!

Inside, all the seats were great - we choose a spot in the middle of 8th row.   Having been in the 2nd to 5th rows at most Joe shows (6 since June of 2007), it was time to get a bigger view of the whole band.  Still way up close.

The photos that Seilerbird posted are terrific - http://picasaweb.google.com/SeilerBird/JoeBonamassa

What a delight to have Joe and the band stride out on stage, no opening acts to have to wait through.   Sorry to all who have opened for Joe, but that's who we came for!

The whole group seemed relaxed and happy to be there.  There's a picture of the crowd in Seilerbird's page above - it was a fully focused, adoring bunch!

Nancy's review is right on target.  Not a bad seat in the house, excellent acoustics.  I just kept thinking, this is PURE Joe.  The band seemed to really enjoy being there, everyone played extremely well and with some new flourishes and arrangements, all for the better.  Didn't think that there could be any improvements after the October 19th show in Rockville, MD, but I was wrong.  We showed great restraint by not leaping up for a standing ovation after every song, but halfway through, the first one happened after Mountain Time.  The whole audience was floating through the first encore.  Then a second encore, who was happier, the band or the audience?

Sometimes I think Ann and I are the only ones so obsessed, and then I read the other posts, and I know that we're not off base in our absurd devotion to Joe Bonamassa and the magic of this band.  We are not crazed women stalking poor Joe (although it must sound like it to the UnbonaBaptised!).   We are just crazed people!  Among the many here.

Scanning the tour list for our next fix, can't justify a jaunt to Europe although... nah.

Best wishes to Joe & Co in India & Europe - safe trip and hurry back!

Anne & Co

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Meant to say there were THREE encores!

No, you're not obsessed - just normal Joe Bonamassa fans big_smile  You are not alone .....

Thanks everyone for the great reports from Joe's last shows in the US before he heads our way - at last!  Its only been 4 months since he was in Europe but it seems a long time coming round again.  Don't worry we'll take good care of Joe, Carmine, Bogie and Rick.

Those are some great pictures. My friends and I were on the front row, and we are in the crowd shot picture on there.

It was an excellent show. I have been friends with Bogie for almost 20 years now, so I was really excited when I found out that my work trip to Vegas would coinside with a Bonamassa show. The three friends I took to the show with me had never seen Joe & Co. before, and were thoroughly impressed. I got a little nervous when we got there and saw folks already lined up at 5:15 for an 8:00 show! We didn't even have tickets because Bogie had assured me he would hook us up, but it seemed like there was quite a demand.

Of course he came through like a champ. He had told me to call when we got to the casino so we could grab a bite to eat, but I called and he said they hadn't even done sound check yet, and the band had just eaten. After sound check was over, he came out and got me and we hung out for a bit before the show. The manager let my friends and I pick out whatever seats we wanted before he opened the doors. I'm a bass player, so of course front row on Carmine's side of the stage! I didn't realize when we sat down that there were subs underneath the stage pointing right at us. So I had Bogie's kick drum thumping me in the chest all night, which was awesome. Damn, I miss playing with that dude!

Anyways, the show was fantastic, and it was great to get to catch up with Bogie again. Hopefully I'll get to a couple more shows this year.

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Hey THB, I noticed Bogie taking some folks in.  Glad you were being escorted in the right direction!

Cathy, as far as winning or losing, I may have lost a bit in the casino, but that show was an over-the-top WINNER!  Considering what concert tickets go for these days, I'd have gladly paid what I put into those damned money-eating machines to see Joe & Co. do what they do so well.  I didn't lose more than I'd allowed for, and it was a pretty entertaining way to throw my money at rich casino owners, so, absolutely, the weekend in LV was a WINNER.

Thanks Anne & Lee!!!!

Ann

Re: VEGAS BABY!!

Again, sounds like a great time for everyone..Addysea, don't worry, you can't be called the craziest female fans from Maryland because Jane and I already hold that title! lol I'm chomping at the bit waiting for more tour dates..See you at the next tri-state show I hope!   Cathy
