Topic: 2008 International Blues Challenge

160 acts..100 bands and 60 duo/solo acts will compete in Memphis starting Thursday. They hail from 6 continents, 11 countries, 36 states and D.C.. I know other friends here know bands that are going..Good Luck!..BUT I hope "my" band, "Nothin But Trouble" kicks everyone's butt! It should be fun and I'll let you know about it when I get home Sunday.            (For those concerned, my Mom is coming home from the hospital Weds...My regular "babysitter" will be with her)...    Cathy                 Edited to add, with GREAT JOY!,   Attention all young players..Besides the band and solo/duo category, a 3rd one will be added to next year's competition.."Under 20"..so if you are interested contact your local blues society!!!!

DID anyone attend?  Category 5 was there providing amps for the Finals and giving away an amp as the Albert King Award.

Lots of fun and the winning band, Trampled Under Foot, was smoking - they would be a great opener for Joe.

They also gave a Gibson guitar to the winner that they'll have to exchange for a leftie.  All the bands there were obviously good, but with 10 venues running the band competitions, and 6 venues holding the solo/duo act it's hard to see them all, or even 1/3 I'd say. The other problem was that even though there was a schedule, some bands didn't use all their time. The venues wanted to keep people in the bars so acts would come on early and be almost over when you got there...So I'll write about the ones I saw next..... Cathy
