Topic: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

I'm not sure how many live show traders we have at this forum.  If you are unaware of bit torrents, just Google it and you should find all the information you need to get up to speed with downloading live shows over the Internet.  Since Joe is taper friendly, my plan is to post links to various Joe Bonamassa audio and video recordings that are available for downloading (and then burning to CD or DVD as appropriate).

Dimeadozen is the main site I frequent.  You have to register to see and download torrent files.  Follow the instructions on the main page to get started.

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

Since we can't register at that site in order to get the torrent file, is there another place you can post the torrent?

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

Wood:  Keep trying over the course of a few days...they periodically purge inactive accounts and you'll eventually be able to register.  I have found some pretty amazing stuff there. Drop me an e-mail at carlj@aol.com if you need some guidance with the technical requirements.  Someone posted a torrent of the Sculler's shows about a year or so ago...was a frustrating process to figure out but once you do and you get a fast torrent, it ROCKS!

Keep on rockin' the blues.....

P.S.  Warning: I filled a 250 gig hard drive since New Year's...it's an addictive habit.

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

I put all my Joe shows that I recorded on Dime and over 200 people+ have grabbed them. I just don't want people converting them to MP3 to distribute. They must be shared loss-less.

Large hard drives are CHEAP these days and god help anyone still on dial-up, especially if you have a ton of music on your computer.

Thanks to dknight16 for posting the link to my torrent on Dime.

This is a really ACE sounding Matrix & I heartily recommend it to all. Even the original Taper "Bob in Ohio" agrees that this one sounds better than the originals.

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

Lossy torrents are not allowed on the most reputable trackers, like Dime, Traders Den, etc.  There is always the chance that someone doesn't know the lineage of the concert and decides to offer it.

For the most part, these torrents are loss-less.  The files are just downloaded as FLAC or SHN files, both of which are loss-less compressed files.  Now where those files are sourced back from is what might be lossy. Seeing the complete lineage of a concert can be important.  Mine always goes from my DAT > 7 pin optical > soundcard, so nothing is lost.  There are programs out there that can do spectrum analysis to determine if the sound files are lossy or not. (I don't have any of them, just aware of them)

There's no difference of a copy from a CD and one that is downloaded from a tracker.  There are just obviously more steps involved on something from a tracker in order to end up with the finished product.

I use to trade concerts on high-bias cassettes, no dolby noise reduction, no high speed dubbing, list the generation if known from the master.  Geez, have times changed in the digital age!

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

All of the torrents posted here are from lossless sources.  They can be freely traded to anyone without worry of compromised quality.  In the recent past (before bt became popular) downloads of mp3 sources were common.  These are the downloads traders wish to avoid.  Bit torrent technology has made high quality downloads possible.  It is a wonderful digital world out there!

Hi Jane,

I third the support offered by Belexes & Dknight16 for trading via the web using Bit Torrent. It's the only way to go for serious collectors of live music IMO. There really is no downside.

I used to be a fairly active trader via mail a few years back but since discovering Bit Torrent and sites like STG, Dime etc 95% of my shows are now obtained via the web. & My collection has blossomed accordingly.

Of course as with everything in life there is always a risk of having problems. But sites like Dime are in effect self-policing as there are so many self proclaimed "experts" around to jump heavily on any wrong doer. Any 'newby' can feel safe with the protection offered by the community.

I would say that in fact you are more likely to receive degraded quality via old fashioned snail-mail trades (especially 'weeds' were multiple copying introduces errors) than by this new-fangled internet malarkey. Indeed simply copying CD's without introducing errors can be quite a specialised skill; a skill not always possessed by the Trader sending you CDR's through the mail.

By using recognised quality live trading sites such as Dime, TDD via the web you now have direct access to quality, rare, low-gen, and master recordings from all kinds of artists offered up for free by all those kind folks willing to share their own collections & labours of love.

Access to master recordings was almost impossible in 'the old days' unless your mate was a Taper. & collecting Bootlegs/Silvers (as opposed to CDR copies) was, & still is, a very very very expensive hobby. Trees or vines were the only real option for obtaining quality shows, sometimes from the master recording. But these too have their problems and still include a risk of receiving damaged goods (and they are SO SLOW compared to the web!!!).

With quality recording gear being readily & cheaply available nowadays and many Tapers willing to share their recordings you now have direct access to virtually any new live music you want.

e.g. within hours of Cream playing their comeback gigs at the MSG in Oct last year (at a cost of $$$$ a ticket!!) you could download top quality (DAT) master recordings direct from the Tapers including details of how the show was recorded, artwork and the full story of the concert as well as sharing with the community, in real time, the buzz generated by the recordings. Via old trading methods you would have received your 2 CDR's about 6 weeks after the show with no artwork and the risk of clicks, gaps, poor quality CDR's etc.

GO FOR IT .. but beware .. it can become very addictive!!! LOL

Cheers - Steve

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

I also frequent Dimeadozen. I have so many great shows that I would never have heard were it not for finding that website. Including shows by Joe, who is taper friendly. I think it's a great idea for an up and comming artist like Joe Bonamassa to allow people to tape his shows, as long as he has no intention of ever making a live album out of any of them.
And people are always encouraged to support the artists by purchasing their official releases. Speaking of official releases, The Dime does not allow then to be torrented, even single tracks. If anything that was ever officially released ends up there it is banned, almost imediately. There are moderators constantly looking.
My music collection has grown by leaps and bounds since I began to download from torrent sites like Dimeadozen. Check it out, you will get hooked.

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

I agree with the posts above, downloading shows from trackers can be *very* addictive and fill up your hard drive in a hurry.  I have a slave drive that I use for nothing but downloaded concerts.

Re: Joe Bonamassa master torrent thread

I got in a couple years ago when there was still space available. What I have read happens is that old accounts get deleted and a purge may happen every 15 minutes or so.  Keep trying and trying and you should eventually get in to register.
