In case you missed these posts from Bogie to this Forum (Bogie, it's so cool knowing that you read the Forum, and write in!)

Someone asked if it was really Bogie posting in May 2006:

5/11/2006
Hi guys,

It is the real me.  Just checking in to see how everything we're doing is coming across.  I must say that I really enjoy seeing the dedication from you guys to Joe...

To answer an earlier question, I grew up in Greenville, SC and went to UNC Chapel Hill and lived in Chapel Hill and Greensboro for many years before coming to Los Angeles in 97. My heart will always be in NC with most of my family and friends there, as well as the best damn BBQ in the world!!!!
Thanks again for the love and I'll see you soon.
Bogie

And in case you missed it recently, the story behind the name, from this September 9/26/07:

Hello Everyone,

Hargrove here. So you now know my secret.  Please, it' s an alias at best, but if you must know, here's the story. Hargrove Bowles IV, born to Hargrove Bowles III, son of Hargrove Bowles, JR who was the son of Hargrove SR. So the history is this.  My grandfather, God rest his soul, did run for Gov in NC back in 72.  He was also a member of the State Senate, and State House of Representatives.  He was a Southern  Democrat. His son Erskine Bowles, my uncle, also a Southern Democrat was Clinton's Chief Of Staff.

Now back to the name. My Grandfather went by a nickname "Skipper".  My Father went by a nickname, "Skipper" I go by Bogie and no one in my family, not even my Grandmother nor my Mother when she was mad at me ever called me Hargrove.  Realizing this as a teenager I asked why didn't I have a normal name since no one ever used the Hargrove name.  No one could tell me, it is just how it is.  So if you like, you can call me Hargrove, but just don't expect me to answer you:) When someone calls my house asking for you know who, I know immediately that it is a telemarketer and promptly hang up.  It's kind of cool for that, like I have a code of my own or something.  So anyway, that's the story of my name.

Bogie, Camine, Rick - we know that Joe is "Always on the Road,"
but the fact that you three keep up with the incredible pace of constant touring is remarkable, and your professionalism & your enjoyment every time you play make the fan base explode exponentially after every gig.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Hi Bogie,

I have a question and its probably silly and maybe you never even considered it.  Are you ambidextrous?  The reason I ask is because I recently read this article in Time magazine where Ringo was featured in the 10 questions section.  One of the questions was about his drumming style and Ringo stated that his main assets are his timing and being ambidextrous, which he feels gives his drumming his personal style.  Ringo said he was born left-handed, but his grandmother turned him into a right-handed person.  After I thought about it, I would think most good drummers, like yourself smile, would be so adapted to using both hands well, that they would just become ambidextrous!  Ringo says he throws, plays cricket and golf with his left hand, but writes and cuts with his right.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Hi  Everyone,
I am indeed, NOT ambidextrous. I wish I were, then I wouldn't have this damn left hand to work on all the time. But, the only drummers who do not have a problem with their left hands are left handed, hahaha. I have a very active left hand from playing, but I am still very much right handed, and right footed. When I played basketball I was a point guard and was probably the easiest guy to defend against because I could only make moves to my right due to my left hand being much less coordinated. SO my dreams of becoming a tarheel hall of famer in the Dean Dome, or in Charmichael Auditorium, in my early days had to go by the wayside. Then I found music and hey, maybe I'll play the Dean Dome yet!! We had our first rehearsal yesterday and it went great, so nice to see everyone and play and hang together.  It is a great group of guys. By the way, I am a huge Deep Purple fan and Ian Paice was and is a major influence on me. The Made In Japan solo is breathtaking and if you haven't seen them before, go asap. I saw them 3 years ago when KWS opened for them and sat right behind Ian for a few songs and was blown away by his pocket and his touch, simply masterful. OK gotta go do the house work, Mom and Sister come in tonight, more in laws for my wife, oh joy, oh joy, haha.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Hi Bogie,
Thank you for the reply...there goes that theory big_smile ... However, based on the lefties I know, I seem to think they adapt to doing things with their right hand easier than righties adapt to using their left hand...that's my new theory...

I'm assuming you are still a college basketball fan, tough touring schedule you have for being a fan...especially during March madness.  I'm not sure if you get to watch the games much but probably get the scores over the internet.  If you ever want me to tape any games for you, just ask...I understand, I live with a college basketball junkie!

I didn't know you were married, I remember you mentioning Gina as your girlfriend!  I must have missed something or be confused lol. Congratulations if you recently married. smile

A big thumbs up to all the dudes on here that do housework and/or cook!!  Joe fans rule!!! wink

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

By the way, Bogie is absolutely one of the best drummers out there, period. And I'm not just saying that because he's my friend, he's awesome! As a bass player, he's the kind of drummer you want behind you. He beats the crap out of the drums, and really knows how to control the dynamics of a song. And, he's one of the nicest guys I've ever known. I'll be in Vegas to see them play next weekend, and I can't wait!

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Nah...he's a rascal!  Glad to see a bass player on the forum.  Know any guitar player jokes?  email em please, not here.

Bogie doesn't lose the one or the pocket or the groove.  Sometimes I look at bucket bangers and ask, "Can you count to 4? or 12?"  Let us pray.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Did you know that there is a really great video of Bogie on the Paiste web site from the North Sea Jazz Festival? http://www.paiste.com/news/viewnews.php?newsid=450

The end of the video also includes a shot of Annelies (I think) in the audience.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Ringo Starr is left handed.   He finds it a little difficult.  Notice his drum rolls are started backwards.  This gives his left hand a head start passing his right hand to the floor tom.

Just when I discovered the meaning of life, it changed.

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Well, since someone else brought up the "Carmine Rojas - Did You Know" thread, I'll pop up the "Bogie Bowles - Did You Know" since it's a new tour and surely many new fans will be tuning in to read as much as they can about all of the terrific band members.

Did you know - there's a "Fans of Bogie Bowles" Facebook page?  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/gro … amp;ref=ts

Did you know, Bogie often replies on the Forum:

I have to say, Bogie playing High Water on the RAH DVD is my go-to song to convert the uninitiated.  Pure Bogie matches Pure Joe and hearts drum along!

Re: Bogie Bowles - Did You Know

Did you know that Bogie is a huge fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels? And did you know (which I'm sure you did) he's one of the nicest people you could ever meet?

Here's a picture of Bogie and a little buddy of his watching North Carolina playing Duke in basetball. Not only did Bogie make it a point to ask Tallan to sit next to him, but throughout the game he took time to explain fouls, timeouts, etc.

Did you now that Bogie is a "Class Act"? You bet he is!!  smile
