Topic: BDS Slams SF

Just got in from THE CITY after catchin' Back Door Slam at the Rickshaw Stop. Shred and I both agreed the young lads from the Isle of Man just get better every time we catch their act. They told us it was a tough go getting here having to chain up in Oregon due to snow in the Ashland pass, but by the time they reached San Francisco they were up for the task. They played a solid 2 hr. set to a crowd of about 200+ with many first timers who were blown away by their sizzling bluesrock. Highlights for me were their cover of John Hiatt's Ridin' With The King and their original It'll All Come Around. They capped off the night with Rory's Comin' To Your Hometown with Davy on mandolin, very cool stuff. My dream bill would be to see BDS open for Joe sometime in the future. Pictures and setlists were gladly autographed and many pleasantries were exchanged and we bid the lads farewell till the next time we all hook up again. An awesome time for $10.00.

Keep an eye on backdoorslam.com or their myspace. They are booking future dates currently as they start this latest tour. Nick if you know any club owners let them know about the lads, you could be their hero.

Re: BDS Slams SF

Ok.....where do you want me to start?.....let just jump right in......BACK DOOR SLAM ROCKS!!......oh my god.....if they come to your area DO NOT MISS THEM!!!!!.....are you hearing me?....amazing night for great music....from the time they stepped on the stage until their last encore, there was no down time....every song was outstanding!...you had killer covers from Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, John Lee Hooker as well as some originals written by one of the greatest guitar/vocalist/song writers you will ever see...Davy Knowles reminds you a very young Clapton at times and other times of Joe Bonamassa from "ANDY LIVE".....they got on stage and Davy did not waste one second, he went into a blistering fret hand smokin, wah wah pedal working 30 seconds wtith his fender strat....my mind went immediately to ANDY LIVE, when Joe blew those people away in Fort Wayne, Indiana.....nothing like standing 5 feet away as Jdawg and I did....when they played "Gotta Leave" from their debut CD (a slow bluesy tune) I could not help but belt out the words myself...Jdawg says to me..."man Shred, your were a dancing fool tonight..and you were sober!"....I glanced over at him and said...."can ya blame me, they were on fire!"...he just put his head down and smiled while shaking his head in agreement.....yeah folks take it from a couple of San Francisco music junkies, there great....you know Jdawg and I wouldnt let you down!

Dave

P.S...I forgot one thing Davy said to me when we were leaving....."please mention us on the Joe Bonamassa forum".....when Jdawg and I saw them back in Nov. we worked the room like usually with our JB cards.....the poor lads got cornered by me, and I told them all about Joe.....but Davy had already knew of Joes music....I found out that they had just got signed to a label....it would have been a great find for Joes label....so Davy if you read this , I hope I did you right!

Re: BDS Slams SF

I get my fix in a couple of weeks, great to hear they keep getting better and
adding more songs to their setlist. Like Joe their down to earth and thats a good
thing for everyone. I'll have to ask them when they plan a new release.
A northeaster is heading our way tme to batten down the hatches .

Davy said they'll be in the studio in LA in late March early April working on new material. Heard two new ones the other night called Back Door Slam and What in the World. Both outstanding. April 30th Davy turns 21, so he can finally have a pint in the places they play.

Re: BDS Slams SF

Thanks Geoff....I'm just a huge fan of these lads like yourself....there waiting to get booked for the "Beale Street Music Festival" in Memphis...They were there last year and I missed them...if i had heard of them...I would not have missed them....it's funny they travel in this boxy kind of euro looking van with no back or side windows...and it's not very big!...those trips across the U.S. must be VERY long.....Davy got rid of the electric Gibsons...said he couldnt keep them tuned...and he has no guitar tech....so he keeps a backup Fender in case one goes on him...he does have one acoustic Gibson....anyways my wife and I are planning on going back to Memhis this year...now if Joe was booked there...well my year would be complete....

When the show went on in S.F....all us "blue hairs" were right on top of the band...the only ones that managed to sqeeze between us were all the young attractive girls trying to get Davys attention....two young girls next to Jdawg and I start carrying on this stupid conversation....I finally told them politely to please be quiet...the good lord must be looking out after me...cuz if I had a few drinks I would have torched them..."no talking when the bands playing, thank you"...and that goes for any band...I take the tunes serious, and any band deseves a little respect..dont you think?...oh, one last thing...there were 2 set list...one in front of Ross...the other behind Davy...all these dudes were jawing between encores on who was gonna get them....well, unfortunately Jdawg got Ross..and Davy handed his to me...they all signed them afterwards...I faxed copies to 3 of the 2nd place finishers this week...LOL

Dave

P.S....look in your email...
