Topic: Get that flu shot?

I'm working on my 4th day of being sick, been home 2 days. Called work just now , told them I'd come to work for a few hours. Seems alot of the letter carriers at the post office are calling in ill. What do you do when you feel like the flu bug is coming on....."I can hear you Cathy from the east coast, I've drank enough fluids to drown a horse, so be nice, you know what a wuss I am when I'm sick"....Yall got any old fashion remedies, I got to get better quicker than this, the world just wont survive without me!!!!.....LOL...

Sorry to hear your down and out Shred, I guess it depends on what kind of bug you got but when i got the chills and the aches i take a hot shower or bath and put on the sweat suit,get a hot cup of tea put in a shot of old grand dad and get under the covers and sweat my a** off. It's worked for me in the past. I am a firm believer in the flu shot. I used to get the flu every year that would last a week and one year i was just about over it when i coughed so hard i thru my back out and had to stay home a week longer. In three years that i have gotten the shot  no flu for me  KNOCK ON WOOD  smile      Hang in there and hope you get better real soon .

Poor Shred and Roy!!! I know you want it gone, but it's got to run it's course. Chicken soup really does help. It's not true that cold alone will make you sick. You have to be exposed to the virus. So..WASH YOUR HANDS!!! This is the best way to prevent introducing the virus to your body. Of course, don't kiss people that aren't well. Lots of "sharing" over the Holidays..Do the "Hollywood" kiss. Air only...I have had luck with Zicam..You have to take it early..I still got sick, but not as bad. I agree with Jon, get your shots. It's an inactive virus..will not make you sick....If all else fails..there's always the Sloe Gin cure!  Cathy

Fellas & sister,  I feel you.  Wash your hands!  Yes!  But now that you have it, any soup with hot sauce in it. (wink)  Sweating works if you can get knocked out for awhile.  Better make sure you drink two full glases of water before you start though, esp if you spike your tea.

My wife works in medicine & swears by the SHOT.  She gets one every year.  I however am certain that Big Pharma is in bed with the devil.  Never had one, don't want one.  Haven't had the flu in years.  (knocks head)

Ms.Tia and kids say that my body is a toxic waste dump and that nothing could live in it any way, at which point I gleefully state that I'm still in it & haven't put anything illegal in it for years.  My daughter once told somebody that I wasn't even human, that I had black blood,  after she watched a mosquito bite me and die.  True!

However I do take mass quantities of pharmGrade fish Oil & other supplements, antioxidants, etc.  Maybe it's the sweet salsa picante. habaneros!

Just being funny, hope it made you smile.  Get well soon.  Don't go back to work too soon.

Thanks yall!!....just got in the door.....thanks for all the advice, I'm taking notes. I actually feel decent at this moment, but I know better, I'm staying in the house for sure. Being a sports junkie, I'll have plenty of football to keep me still.....by the way did you see the odd play with Mac Browns son screwing up that play in the Texas game?

P.S....I had the chills so bad yesterday that I slept in the spare bedroom, could not get warm, so I got my wifes blowdryer and had it under the covers, my wife woke up, she could hear it and woke up to see what the noise was. She's been teasing me ever since, I told her.... " you better get the story acurate if ya tell anyone or I'll kill ya...lol

When I feel something coming on I try to get some mega doses of vitamin C into my system. I will take a couple of chewable tablets in the morning and then again in the evening along with many glasses of orange juice during the day. Usually nips anything that starts to get a hold of me.

That's personal! 

oh that?...6'6" just under 200 lbs.  Injured back is better now, working out and eating again.  Always on the skinny side, but strong, not sickly, till I got run over.

I'm sure your salsa is great.  What kind of peppers do you use?

I use jalapenos.......the biggest difference in mine than most is "cumin", quite pungent, but tasty!!

Ah yes, I like the sound of that.  My salsa is more along oriental lines; sweet and Hot.  There is no cumin, no cilantro, no bell peppers.  I just had to do something different than what was available.  I developed a taste for Thai (viet) food a while back.

King Red Habaneros!  Better than a flu shot or a drink!  IMHO, of course.

My wife wants me otta the house now!!...she says I'm like a caged animal...first the flu...then bronchitis...docs got me on antibiotics. and I'm feeling better...too good...wheres she at wink ...gonna take a few more days off work though...I dont want pneumonia...I've had that in the past, and thats no joke either...guess I'll bore you peeps with another "post em up" bombardment of epic proportions.

Get mine every year on the NHS. Only had flu twice. Never again I hope!!! sad

Too late, been miserable with a mother of a cold since Mon. and can't stop work on a kitchen that has to be done for Turkey Day. No rest for the weary here!

Cathy introduced me to Nyquil. We both swear by it.  cool

Have had the flu shot the last three years now, during which time I have had only one nasty bout of something, and that happened to start two days before Cathy went home again.  sad  It took me the best part of two weeks to get properly over it.

I do NOT recommend that you get a shot of any kind at any big chain store. Do you know who is giving you the shot? Do you know what they're injecting you with? The answer to both is a resounding NO YOU DON"T!!!

Here's what happened to my aunt and uncle in Florida: About a month or more ago they went into another big chain store (HQ'd in Arkansas) to get their flu shots and used their prepaid medical card. The week after my uncle went to pick up his usual monthly medications and was told his cards balance was zero. After some investigating it was found that the "nurse" that administered their flu shots the week earlier was a fraud and the cards info was used by state prisoners for phone calls. More investigating my uncle found that the store had no record of this nurse, that the store hires from a outside company who hires these "nurses" over the phone. So with no record of this nurse or what she injected my relatives with, my aunt and uncle are now forced to have periodic HIV tests. And until they can prove what they were injected with, or locate the "nurse", no charges can be filed and there's virtually no investigation being handled. No, no lawyer will touch this either.

So my friends, if you want a flu shot, go to a freakin' DOCTOR or a VALID Medical Facility!!!!!

Get the flu shot. I had H1N1 influenza 2 years ago (only year I skipped the vaccine)...a dangerous illness for an adult and miserable as well.
