Re: Frank Marino

Yes he does rip it up on that video, but he is so much more than a guy that plays an occasional Jimi Hendrix tune. Even though J.B. Goode was not written by Jimi his version from the posthumous release "In The West" was the best version of the song.
It was the Hendrix rip off lable that kept Frank from becoming a huge force rather than the  cult hero he became to his loyal fans.
It all started when he dedicated the first Mahogany Rush album (Maxoom) to Jimi , and there was a definate Hendrix sound to it, but one must remember Frank Marino was 16 years old when he made that album and he like most young guitar players in the early 70's was certainly influenced by Jimi Hendrix.
Then some **** write made up the story about Frank claiming that he was the reincarnation of Hendrix after having a bad drug experience when he was 13 years old, in 1968. The only problem with the ridiculaus story , which many people believed by the way, was that Jimi did not die until Sept. of 1970.
Frank and his management tried in vain to get a retraction but the story soon took on a life of it's own, and the rest is history.

Anyone who knows and digs FM&MR also know that Frank the artist and man has always dodged the spotlight in favour of his own idea of making music and enjoying it at that. So while it's somewhat true that it was the 'rip-off label' to limit his force (30%), it's also true that most of Frank's being 'reticent' is due to HIM and HIM alone.....and I thank Frank for that choice! smile smile

Rob

What you say is true , Frank does not seek the spotlight and never did, but the stigma that was attatched to him hurt him much more than you believe, in my opinion.
It is cool to hear from a true fan of the great Frank Marino, take care my friend.

Re: Frank Marino

Yes sir, big FM fan here...since day one! Thank you.

Re: Frank Marino

Saw Frank recently in Wisconsin - can't wait till he comes back - we were limited to a
90 minute show (casino) - from what you guys tell me he was just getting warmed up.

Hi Jaci,
Yeah, as has been talked about before Frank does give a true marathon show when there are no restrictions , 3+  hours is the norm.
