Well then, that's my Christmas Season off to a belter of a start, with Aynsley Lister's [near traditional] December Northern-leg tour. Okay, he tried to throw a curveball last year by coming in September, but then Christmas starts in August in most stores...
Mind you, just because it's something of a regular, though always welcome event, it doesn't mean that this time didn't have it's share of surprises. Through the 2x45 minute sets, I think Aynsley & the lads managed one song from each of his album career. Kicking off with Everything I Need, sounding grittier than ever on the red Telecaster, Soundman came along as well as his only instrumental to date, Quiet Boy. These rubbed shoulder with the more recent Hyde, Home and Killing Eve [pt1]. Boy, were the guys out to have fun. One quick mention, even though he's been touring with Aynsley for a while now, this was my first time catching Jono on bass; he's either been on the DL or off getting married... Anyway, he knits tightly with Craig-the-Drums and there's some mischievous chemistry with Aynsley, so one of the best line-ups ever.

Right, Set 2 and the deep-dive continued, Soul, Hurricane, What's It All About; it's got to be when Aynsley was touring Tower Sessions that I last heard the 3 of these in the same set. And so it rolled to the evergreen Purple Rain ending.
Other thing that stood out, other than the music was the size of the audience. Aynsley has always drawn healthy audience numbers, but I felt tonight's show, there were more in than I've seen for a few years. Maybe, some that thought they were going to see Martin McAloon got the wrong room, but decided to stay: or maybe, the posting Is I've done on a local page have paid off. Who knows, but a good turnout is not to be sneezed at.

So, maybe a bit nostalgic, but these older numbers sounded fresh and still kicked in 3 pairs of very capable hands [and a couple of sets of vocal chords].

Good way to close the 2024 account.
