What an incredible night of music in an incredible venue!!! Other than being a bit tough to find, Penn's Peak is the nicest of the 8 venues I've seen Joe and the band play since June. It was big, but not too big with great sound and lighting.
Having seen Crosby alone and with Paul, I prefer Crosby with accompaniment. He seemed to feel more comfortable and to let loose a bit more. Either way, this was the best set I've seen from Crosby to date. He seems to be gain confidence with each show. The crowd was very enthused.
Joe and the band gave an incredible performance. I think being well-rested and relaxed probably contributed to the awesome energy coming from Joe and the band. There were a few concessions made to accomodate Sam Bush being on the program. Bogie didn't get his usual drum solo, and Joe did only one encore, Asking Around For You, during which he was joined by Sam Bush. This was awesome.
Then came Sam Bush and his band. I couldn't stay for their whole set Wednesday in Baltimore as it was a work night, but I didn't miss a note on Saturday. I can't claim to have been familiar with Sam prior to reading that he was doing some of the dates with Joe, but consider me educated. For example, who know Fender made electric mandolins? Sam played an assortment of mandolins and a fiddle, all with Joe-esque skill and passion. His band was great too. I never expected to hear a the Bob Marley/Stevie Wonder Jammin'/MasterBlaster, but I did.
Joe and Sam (and his band) both came out and talked and signed until every last fan was satisfied. I didn't see Bogie, Carmine and Rick after the show, but I suspect they were around. I had my 15-year-old cousin with me. This was his second Joe show, but his first chance to meet Joe. He was simply ecstatic at being able to get an autograph and have his picture taken with Joe.
Joe-thanks so much for not only being the musician you are, but being the person you are and taking the time to show your appreciation for the fans. To have that personal connection with an artist of your caliber makes us feel special. I hope you enjoy the poster I gave you, and I'm working on some other stuff as we discussed.
What am I going to do now until Joe comes back to the Northeast??????
