Re: The Main Squeeze

I've had nearly two months listening to this great band and wonder which songs stand out with my fellow members here.  I've decided their best album is the self-titled second album that has "Where Do We Go."  There are three songs attached to WDWG and all three are incredible and different.  Good stuff.

Their Live Volume 2 is the best live album and their magical redo of Dark Side of the Moon is drop dead bad a$$.

Btw:  Lewis Taylor has released his first "new" song in 15 years.  I listen to him a lot too.

Re: The Main Squeeze

I've only actually managed to make it through the thumb drive once since I can't "leave-off" on my usual system. That said, I haven't found one track that I'd skip... As I'm typing this, through the lap top I'm on the Nola covers, and they're just romping away on War Pigs - love the keyboard solo.

In a way, they remind me of old Deep Purple in the way each band member fuses their own particular style into a very focused Soul/Rock sound.  Hope they make it back over here before too long...

Re: The Main Squeeze

Thought I'd add this vid here but it could've been added to the new albums thread.
This is TMS's drummer, Reuben Gingrich's solo jazz album which I find very enjoyable.

Reuben is so,so talented and his band really has that Snarky Puppy vibe

Re: The Main Squeeze

Since I'll be seeing TMS again in a few weeks I thought I'd put up a couple Blues vids of theirs.  One's an exceptional cover and the second's an original composition.

I didn't beat Mike's $10 entry cost, but it'll only be $20 a ticket for the Fishers Amphitheater August 19th.  Going with my Step-Son and his wife.  Hope it cools off.  Been a hot summer.

One the one hand, this is musically every bit as good as expected from TMS - On the other hand, I never really got into RHCP. Might spur on some probing...

I feel the same way about the Peppers.  I took more notice of them a few years ago when a dear co-worker friend played a song of theirs for their first song at their wedding reception.  I'll look it up and add here.

Btw, the TMS concert was changed to include Govt Mule. I've got a ton of their music, but haven't listened to them in awhile.

Re: The Main Squeeze

Just announced a London (UK) show for May 31st (2023) @ The Jazz Cafe

Re: The Main Squeeze

This rendition (can't call this a cover) of a song 55 years released is extraordinary on several levels.  The Main Squeeze in concert rarely deviate from their own original music.  Recreating rock classics are quite common, but doing Zeppelin is out of most peoples technical skills.  LZ in their heyday were at the top of the mountain, and maybe my favorite band of all time.  TMS' band members compare quite well with their rock idols.

I saw Led Zeppelin in 1970 where they played this song and another classic, "Since I've Been Loving You".  TMS's live versions are better than Zep's.  If you can see this amazing band, see 'em!

After 2 consecutive gigs where bands covered Rock an Roll, good see hear bands digging a little deeper into Zepps' canon.

Mind, a number of years back, Great White did a series of Zeppelin covers, including a [vocally] very accurate Since I've Been Loving You that you may want to check.

Re: The Main Squeeze

Back in my college days which happened to be in the golden age of rock music there used to be a band called Nebula Spoon that was heads and tails above the rest.  They did some original music, but top notch covers were their bread and butter.  They were from Kokomo and the guitarist, drummer and singer would later end up with nationally famous bands.  Roadmaster, Pure Funk and Johnny Cougar to name a few.
TMS reminds me of that great band, but Nebula Spoon never got really deep into Led Zeppelin"s catalog.  Things could go sideways quite easily to promising musicians.  Geez, every aspiring guitarist has played Hendrix to death, but not these two songs and nobody has had the balls to do Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of the Moon beginning to end.
As for LZ's song renditions probably the Live At the Greek album, done by The Black Crowes AND Jimmy Page is the top Zeppelin cover album.  Page's fondness for David Coverdale didn't hurt Whitesnake either.  Seems he was always looking for a young Plant replacement.

Re: The Main Squeeze

Of course, Page did do an album with Coverdale (Lordy - 30 years ago!).

But getting back more on theme, what I've come to like about TMS is the range and variety of covers they do; you couldn't call these guys one-trick-ponies, they're fearless...
