Re: R.I.P. Thread

Charlie Watts has passed at age 80, how sad is this. I knew he wasn't going on tour with them but had no idea he would go so quickly. I am going to get Satanic Majesty's out tonight and listen to a few but especially 2000 Light Years from Home, he is just brilliant on that song. I will never forget what Mick said on Get Yer Ya Yas Out .......... Chally's good tonight ain't he ?
RIP CW, hang out with Brian if you can

Re: R.I.P. Thread

If there is an RIP Thread then there must be an Anti RIP Thread. Just last month Richie Faulkner suffered an aortic dissection while on stage and somehow got through the song. They rushed him to the hospital and after some 10 hours of surgery they pulled him through. This is the exact same surgery I had in March of 2020. It's the exact same thing that killed actor John Ridder. Richie was already bleeding out into his chest, by all accounts he had about a 20% chance of living. It is a miracle that he's still with us. No, I am not a big JP fan at all, it's just a really heartwarming story

Re: R.I.P. Thread

RIP Michael Nesmith of the Monkees at age 78 from what they say is just natural causes. I grew up with the Monkees and loved his guitar work on so many songs, not the least of which was Last Train to Clarksville. You know his mother invented the correction fluid White Out. She ended up selling the rights to it for right around $50,000, seems a little low to me

RIP Ronnie Spector (Veronica Greenfield, Veronic Bennett) at age 78 from cancer. Phil didn't treat her well at all, he should burn in hell. "Just like Ronnie sang, be my little baby, baby my darling" ............. Eddie Money, Take Me Home Tonight. I know you remember this one from the 80s

RIP Burke Shelley of Welsh band Budgie. Gave Black Sabbath a run for their money with their brilliant riffs. Some superb song titles too.

Re: R.I.P. Thread

RIP Meat Loaf at age 74, cause unknown. I never was a huge fan but then I watched that concert in Australia on AXS and  understood why he does have so many fans worldwide. It is a tremendous show, they pulled out all the stops. I will see if I can find it and post on what are you listening to right now

Re: R.I.P. Thread

Unfortunately I don’t think MeatLoaf enjoyed great health in recent years.
Saw him at Birmingham NEC @ 1980.
Still got Bat out of Hell on vinyl somewhere.
Reunited with Jim Steinman.

I last saw Meatloaf at Newcastle City Hall in 1988; at the time he was unbelievably between record contracts but toured a 10th anniversary of Bat Out of Hell. What I remember, with a smokin' hot band behind, he held the hall in thrall for nearly 3 hours and was at the top of his game. That was the last show I attended, and that's how I remember him. Maybe I missed out a few years later when Bat II came out, but not long after, when recording devices and social media rose, people seemed to revel in deriding lesser performances, but at least my memories and joy remain untainted of a truely one-off talent.

Re: R.I.P. Thread

Procol Harum frontman Gary Brooker has died aged 76, his band has confirmed. The singer, pianist and composer had been receiving treatment for cancer before dying peacefully at home on Saturday.

Brooker led the band for more than five decades and during that time he helped write and was lead vocals on their 13 albums. In 1977, A Whiter Shade Of Pale was named joint winner alongside Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody as Best British Pop Single 1952–1977 at the Brit Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

Brooker also collaborated with many great artists including writing and singing for Eric Clapton’s band and with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. He also rubbed shoulders with the Beatles as he toured with Ringo’s All-Starrs, and contributed to solo projects for Paul McCartney and for George Harrison, who guested on one of Gary’s four solo albums.
