Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

I watched in amazement how a "metal" man chopped the top on a 1940 Packard, what a talented fabricator! The show is one of the best on all of cable TV, some of those shows are laughable, you just know some of that is a bunch of baloney.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

was remembering a different car thread but found this...looks like the original was deleted but ANYWAY
I wanted to talk about cars (or trucks)... because I finally figured out blue81ta's avatar is his car hood!
I've never seen a blue one like that I don't think

My treasure is our 1971 Dodge Chrager...hubby bought from friend's grandmother for $200 back in the day....was in the barn for decades till we had enough $4 for paint and he and friends finished engine redo - forgive me I don't really know a lot of technical blahblah....not special edition or anything but she's fixed up pretty good...just don't get her out enough.

Curious about the 81 ta!!

Hello Jane.  You're correct, my avatar is my car's hood. I am the original owner of my 81 TA. Next month will be 39 years together with my car!! It has 45,000 original miles on it. It's unrestored. Except normal wear and tear parts, tires etc, my car is original. I ordered it just the way I wanted it.  No rain, no snow or salt.... only sunny days. Ol' Blue is put away for the winter, can't wait for spring. The blue is a fairly rare color for 1981. I love the blue.. my favorite color. Even more rare with the gold decals and tan interior.

For now this is the best I can do for a picture. Click on the picture to enlarge it. My car was featured on the cover of this book about the history of the Firebird. Page 91 is dedicated to my TA.

I LOVE Chargers!! One of my favorite cars. Let's keep this topic going.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

Yes, I have seen the Firebird shirt and pins. I'll be adding those to my large collection of Firebird t shirts and Firebird pins. I'll admit it..... I'm a t shirt aholic. LOL

I'm looking forward to hearing more about Glenda, and other cars too.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

Nice vintage iron.
I was a SoCal hotrodder in my teens and my dad and uncle were too in their day. Tales of souped-up Model A’s that would hit 100 which was the benchmark. Co-pilot to pump the gas tank pressurizer. Unc was wrench on a modified sportsman in the ‘50’s and we’d go to the track and hang in the pits. Gas and oil still in my veins, I enjoy a factory Japanese gentleman’s hot rod these days with bells and whistles. Cushy black on black ride for the wife, but a switch to put it in fun mode and hike up the skirts on back roads. It would blow the doors off my old racers, but lacks that visceral experience. It merely hauls ****.
Fun stuff you’ve got.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

The wife and I went to Barrett Jackson down here in Scottsdale, Az last week.....it was a frickin blast for me, the wifey not so much.....I got to ride in a Hellcat with some 19yo drifter (driver not the other lol) it was wicked fun....Ive never seen so many Chevelle 454s and Mopars…..the wife must have ESP, she says "don't even think about bidding on a car" sad

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

My plan was to buy a car I like new and keep it forever. Take care of it and not beat it to death. I've had some fun with it.... but I'm still here.... so... so far so good. I'm glad I did because to restore a car, buy one finished or go to an auction... WOW... huge $$$$. I hope to retire someday.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

yeah i hear ya...no one wants me to go into to detail about my hubby and cars and $%^)(*&^ up retirement big_smile

with the Charger we spent a ton on the paint/finishing but hubby and friends from our car club did most of the other work, Time Release Car Club / Hampstead, MD...and fortunately available parts....right now he has a 49 Ford F1 pick up thats become a money pit...and at that each step makes you wish you had approached it a whole different way...by the time this is fixed then well really should upgrade that blahblah...its not all original ...has a new chevy motor etc but its cool. He had one before  that wasn't as expensive and loved driving it around and getting thumbs up
i have panic attack most times I drive the Charger...just don't want anything to go wrong but I look at it like Joe with his guitars...meant to be played...meant to be driven

but then the insurance / tags become an issue on when you technically are allowed to drive it etc.

Anyway schedule doesn't allow to get to many of the monthly meetings our car club has the past few years but a great group of friends and help each other out with the vehicles when needed...the dues and proceeds from annual car show they do go to help a local needy family at Thanksgiving and Christmas

Thats cool Shreddy about Barret Jackson...I've heard most of the muscle cars unless very rare etc don't go for as much as the tv shown ones...IDK but no plan to ever sell Glenda, its a family heirloom now big_smile

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

If done the right way, restoring a car is very expensive. The labor cost is what drives the price up. But if you want it done right, that takes a lot of time... which equals money.

I've had offers to buy my car but it would cost me a lot more money to replace what I've got, so I'll just keep Ol' Blue.  I don't want to sell it anyway. I'm good.

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

Been meaning to add here, my son is really into Mitsubishi 3000GT. They are same thing basically as a Dodge Stealth from the '90s
He's had a few...mostly a few donor parts cars but he had gotten a 94 i think for good price...garage kept ,only 10Kmiles....some ahole crashed into him. he got it back on the road but its not as pretty/ not all same color....he has a Japanese GTO right hand drive model as well, on the road.
Its pretty cool because he made a number of friends all also obsessed with this car.....similar to my Bonamassa friends, he's met a lot of people, his 3000GT friends and they help each other out with parts and working on them like we help each other with tickets and info etc.
They have nightmare electronic issues though

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

I like the 3000GT. Electronic issues can be a nightmare.

I've met a lot of great people since I bought my car. Car guys and girls look out for each other... always ready to help out, share knowledge etc.

Yesterday was Ol' Blue's 39th Birthday!! Time sure flies when you're having fun.

Yes,  it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

My brother bought a 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette new, still owns it with about 60,000 miles on it. He also bought new a 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette, still owns it with about 12,000 miles on it. When he went to order the 50th, he was looking at a $52,000 price tag. He said to the salesman... "my wife will divorce me if I spend that kind of cash." He went home and told his wife the price and she said "You go back to the dealer and order the car!! You work hard you deserve it." The smart man that he is, he RAN out the door. Still has both cars and the wife.

Here's a video of a local car show, at about 9:30 you'll see a guy in a red shirt...me, checking out my ride Ol' Blue. Just glad the drone stayed up in the air...

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

That's cool dude, great spot on the corner for the TA, I think im going to pull the trigger on a vette, but only if its near mint, im not wrenching on no more cars, im old and tired

Re: CARS CARS CARS!!!!

It pays to get to the show early. You can get a good spot to park. I'll take grass over dirt and gravel every time. I'll do minor things on my car but I agree... no more turning wrenches.

Good luck with your search for a Vette.
